I was born in 1963 only 14 years after World War II.
I learned at a young age (8 years old) about the Holocaust from my Jewish studies.
I know that half my grandmother's family had been killed in the Holocaust or right in the aftermath.
There were many people in my temple whose family members were killed during the holocaust, and some experienced it directly.

It was important for my community to teach us never again so they showed us books about it with graphic images in them.

And when we were older we took classes on it and read about it. Such as the Diary of Anna Frank, Night by Ellie Wiesel, History how Hitler came to power, and how important the USA democracy to protect us from these things with villigence
and problems american war time doctraines were.

I learned:

Essentially sending to their death 100s of thousands of men, women and CHILDREN!!!!

Every time I have nightmares in my life I see these images.
Every nightmare had me Literally scared of:

someone like the SS coming knocking at my door while I was sleeping and taking me to the a concentration camp stripping my parents from me,
as I try to hide from the lines going to the gas houses.
being placed in the cattle cars for the trains, where they were stopping and taking people out and shooting them into mass graves.
stuck in a ghetto as they go from building to building rounding us up,
me escaping and me running across multiple countries that I didn't know hiding and hiding and hiding to escape.

Real scary hell was already there so
I did not need:

fake monsters in my life i.e. scary movies, haunted houses
people carrying guns
treating others as not having a right to be there because skin color or land of birth.
Those things were taught to me young.

It also taught me not to accept Bigots.
Either you can teach them why they are wrong and they can change their ways
or
You need to identify the Evil drag it into the light of day, to have people fight against it.

The only way that great country like the United States can we mean free and unfettered was the fight bigotry at any level.

And be viligent:

Hitler rose up by frenzying up a large minority of a minority party, and driving the moderates out or scaring the rest into following.
At a time when the Democratic Party had the majority but did not have a strong unified vote.
He then demonized the press.
Placed control with military leaders that supported him.
Got rid of civilian due process.
Hid the evil he was doing by constantly obfuscaing.
Kept rallying his base had his own radio and newspapers, that vilified everyone except him and his strongest followers,

he then started by rounding migrant civilians (gypsies and migrant workers) and putting in camps.

Separating families at night under the cover of dark by using a quasi police force with no direct oversight by legislative branch.
Illegal taking monies allocated for other uses to fund actions not approved by the legislative branch.
These camps were run by the military and kept journalists and even there elected officials from access.
Images were staged and lies about what were going on were constant.
Prior to the election he was sure to lose, he declared Marshal law on a trumped up emergency and eliminated his version of the Congress.
From there it was history...
