Holy week is the period when a devoted believers remembers the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ while he was still on earth. The events remembered during this week are found clearly in the Bible, especially in the Gospels. It includes Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem, the Last Supper, His crucifixion, and His resurrection. These events are biblical and very important to the Christian faith. The Gospel of Matthew and The Gospel of John both describe these events in detail.
But we should be guided that the bible never tells anyone to celebrate anything called holy week. The name and yearly tradition were developed later by the church to help believers remember Christ’s sacrifice. What matters most according to the Bible is sincerely remembering Jesus, living in obedience to God, and having faith in His resurrection and salvation.
The Bible encourages believers to remember Christ’s death and resurrection with gratitude and holiness. Jesus told His disciples to remember Him through communion and faithful living.
Luke 22:19: “Do this in remembrance of me.”
Holy Week can therefore be a helpful biblical reflection when it points people closer to God and to the truth of Jesus Christ.
