Asleep in elbow hollow
Tiny stranger, hiccuping
Arriving early, wailing blue murder
Feet cold in the cup of my palm
One day - when we are more familiar -
I will slide boots on these feet
Go on forest adventures, hide from bears
Tiny hands quiver in fledgling dreams
One day - dear stranger - I'll know
To place wild picked berries in your palms
Run them over mushroom gills and feather quills
Lick chocolate from fingertips
One day, this tiny strangeness
Will look at me and say: Grandma!
Familiar, only, known, loved, blessed.
