Cada año desde 1.990, el segundo domingo de noviembre se celebra el día del abrazo en familia, un día que tiene como finalidad fortalecer los lazos familiares, promoviendo el abrazo como gesto integrador y de amor para tal fin, y en el colegio en el que estudian mis hijos cada año realizan una actividad especial por esta fecha, y por supuesto mi esposo y yo vamos con nuestros niños.
Every year since 1990, the second Sunday in November is celebrated as Family Hug Day, a day that aims to strengthen family ties by promoting hugging as a gesture of love and unity. At the school where my children study, they hold a special activity every year on this date, and of course my husband and I go with our children.
Esta es una actividad que se realiza en plena vía pública, ya que a pesar de que el colegio tiene muchos chicos la infraestructura no es muy amplia, por lo que es imposible que la actividad se realice de manera cómoda dentro de la institución, por lo que para ese día tramitan el cierre de la vía para que podamos disfrutar de este día especial.
Este año se realizó el día de hoy, y fuimos citados para las 7am con la finalidad de no interrumpir por completo la jornada de los chicos y para no cerrar la vía por mucho tiempo.
Les confieso que ayer estuve dudando de ir porque el calor que hace últimamente en la isla es horrible y lo menos que quería era estar en pleno sol, pero el buen tiempo nos acompañó y apenas llegamos el cielo se nubló y comenzó a lloviznar, clima que se mantuvo todo el tiempo que duró el acto, pero sin lluvia, lo que estuvo bastante genial.
This activity takes place on public roads because, although the school has many students, the infrastructure is not very extensive, making it impossible to carry out the activity comfortably within the institution. Therefore, on that day, they arrange for the road to be closed so that we can enjoy this special day.
This year it took place today, and we were asked to arrive at 7 a.m. so as not to completely disrupt the children's day and to avoid closing the road for too long.
I confess that yesterday I was hesitant to go because the heat on the island lately has been horrible and the last thing I wanted was to be in the sun, but the good weather accompanied us and as soon as we arrived, the sky clouded over and it began to drizzle, which lasted for the entire duration of the event, but without rain, which was pretty cool.
Al llegar nos encontramos con muchas familias frente al colegio y todos los niños afuera caminando de un lado a otro, y pude notar que a los de básica les pidieron este año banderines verdes, y como siempre estaban ubicados todos frente al colegio que decoraron con globos blancos y verde, además estuvieron colocando canciones alusivas a la familia y al amor familiar como Amor verdadero una de las canciones emblemáticas de la película animada Coco mientras el acto comenzaba.

When we arrived, we found many families in front of the school and all the children outside walking back and forth. and I noticed that this year the elementary school children were asked to bring green flags. As always, they were all standing in front of the school, which was decorated with white and green balloons. They were also playing songs about family and family love, such as True Love, one of the iconic songs from the animated film Coco, as the ceremony began.

Finalmente después de algunos minutos de espera comenzó la actividad, que como cada año cuenta con palabras de la directora de la institución, participaciones de la coral del colegio, los niños de básica también tienen poesías o canciones y hoy una chica de media y diversificado tuvo la oportunidad de hablar acerca de la importancia y el rol de la familia en la vida de los hijos y les juro que me hizo llorar un montón.
Mis chicos como ya no son tan chicos, se fueron un rato con su otra familia, que son sus amigos, y a quienes conocen hace muchísimos años, y confieso que sentí nostalgia, porque de pequeñitos estaban al lado nuestro siempre, hoy abren sus alas y miran un poco más allá de donde están mamá y papá, pero en un momento de la actividad llegaron los dos hasta donde estábamos y se quedaron hasta el final.
Finally, after a few minutes of waiting, the activity began. As every year, it included words from the school principal, performances by the school choir, and poems and songs by the elementary school children. Today, a girl from middle school had the opportunity to talk about the importance and role of family in the lives of children, and I swear it made me cry a lot.
My kids, who aren't so little anymore, went off for a while with their other family, their friends, whom they've known for many years, and I confess that I felt nostalgic, because when they were little they were always by our side, but today they are spreading their wings and looking a little further than where mom and dad are. However, at one point during the activity, they both came over to where we were and stayed until the end.
Uno de los momentos más lindos de la actividad es cuando se realiza la quema de papelitos con los deseos de los niños para sus familias, papelitos que se llenan durante la semana en sus salones, y ese día al quemarlos se simboliza que llegan al cielo hasta Dios.
La verdad es que es una mañana donde las emociones están a flor de piel, un momento para reflexionar sobre la importancia de este núcleo llamado familia, de la importancia del rol de los padres en la vida de los hijos, en cómo podemos marcar sus vida para toda la vida, tanto positiva como negativamente, y por supuesto en la bendición enorme de tener una familia que nos arropa y está ahí para nosotros siempre, ya sea que estén cerca o estén lejos.
Sin dudas fue un momento muy especial y espero cada año poder ir los 4 juntos en familia, hasta que mi flaca salga de quinto año.

One of the most beautiful moments of the activity is when the children burn pieces of paper with their wishes for their families, pieces of paper that they fill out during the week in their classrooms, and on that day, burning them symbolizes that they reach heaven and God.
The truth is that it is a morning where emotions run high, a time to reflect on the importance of this nucleus called family, on the importance of the role of parents in the lives of their children, on how we can mark their lives forever, both positively and negatively, and of course on the enormous blessing of having a family that supports us and is always there for us, whether they are near or far.
It was undoubtedly a very special moment, and I hope that every year the four of us can go together as a family, until my daughter finishes fifth grade.
