Today we are talking about another game on the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) that was developed by Hudson and released in 1983, it is now a Nintendo classic character, the original Bomberman.
Footage of my gameplay
Plot
Nothing to see here, Bomberman has no plot whatsoever, you are a bomb dropping guys who have to kill creatures in randomly generated rooms.
Graphics, sounds and gameplay
Graphics are kind of standard for the NES console, not the most advanced but they are colourful although backgrounds are all green and frankly ugly. I don't really get what your enemies are supposed to be and bombs seem well enough.
Music is great, from the start to the looping music in the levels is fantastic. Sound effects are what you come to expect from the game and not at all annoying which is exactly what I'm looking for. Pretty good in this department, although music doesn't really stick up in my point of view it is worth a listen.
In the gameplay department, you basically run around on rectangle rooms with some grey blocks placed at random, with enemies that at first are slow like balloons with faces to really fast faces that are kind of trying to eat you. You lose a life if you are touched by an enemy or by the blast of a bomb when the time is over some coin-like enemies that move fast appear but you can blast them with your bombs, you don't die when the time is over but you have to destroy these new enemies. Along the way, you will be unlocking powerups that make your bombs radius longer, make you run faster, use the "b" button to remotely destroy them or be unhittable by your bombs, but if you ever lose a life your powerups are gone. When you destroy all enemies you have to uncover a door to exit the level onto the next hidden in a block.
This game is pretty fun and I do recommend it a lot. I found it pretty enjoyable and surprisingly hard, something you wouldn't expect at first glance, the game has received his fair share of ports you can find the original NES version for as low as 20 USD on eBay. So, check it out.
