Russia launched one of the largest airstrikes since the war began, firing some 90 missiles and more than 600 drones into various parts of Ukraine overnight. The capital, Kyiv, was the primary target, causing damage to homes, schools, markets, and critical infrastructure. Explosions reportedly rocked various parts of the city as rescuers worked through the night to deal with the aftermath.
Ukrainian officials said at least two people were killed and more than 80 others injured in the attack. The attack came shortly after a Ukrainian drone strike reportedly killed 21 people in Russian-controlled territory. These developments indicate a continued escalation of the conflict on both sides. Some analysts believe the war is entering an increasingly dangerous phase with the increased use of long-range strikes and the increasing targeting of civilian areas.
