Today I invite you to explore the Heroes' Square area in Budapest. The square itself is a popular and important place for both tourists and residents of Budapest. However, there are several nearby sites worth seeing. Both architecture and art lovers and nature lovers should enjoy visiting this part of the city.

Dziś zapraszam do odwiedzenia okolicy Plac Bohaterów w Budapeszcie. Sam plac to popularne i ważne miejsce zarówno dla turystów jak i mieszkańców Budapesztu. Jest jednak kilka miejsc obok niego, które warto zobaczyć. Z odwiedzenia tej części miasta zadowolony powinien być zarówno miłośnik architektury czy sztuki, jak i miłośnik natury.
For example, if we exit the historic M1 metro station and head northeast onto Heroes' Square, we'll have the Millennium Monument in front of us. Then, on our left, we'll see the Budapest Museum of Fine Arts.
Jeśli np wysiądziemy ze stacji metra historycznej linii M1 to staniemy na Placu Bohaterów w kierunku północno-wschodnim, czyli przed sobą będziemy mieli pomnik Tysiąclecia. Wtedy po lewej stronie zobaczymy Muzeum Sztuk Pięknych w Budapeszcie.
The museum and its building were built at the turn of the 20th century. The art collections are divided into Egyptian art, ancient art, painting, sculpture, graphic art, and modern art. In total, they contain over 100,000 exhibits, including works by Leonardo da Vinci and Rembrandt.
Muzeum oraz budynek powstały na przełomie XIX i XX wieku. Kolekcje dzieł sztuki zostały podzielone na: sztukę egipską, starożytną, malarstwo, rzeźbę, grafikę oraz sztukę nowoczesną. Łącznie zawiera ponad 100 tysięcy eksponatów, m.in dzieła Leonarda da Vinci czy Rembrandta.
On the opposite side is the Palace of Arts (Műcsarnok). This building is smaller than the museum, but I find it more beautiful. Interestingly, both buildings were designed by the same architects and built at the same time.
Po przeciwnej stronie znajduje się Pałac Sztuki (Műcsarnok). Budynek ten jest mniejszy od muzeum, ale dla mnie jest ładniejszy. Co ciekawe, oba budynki zostały zaprojektowane przez tych samych architektów i powstały w tym samym czasie.
Unlike the neighbouring Museum of Fine Arts, the Palace of Arts does not have a permanent collection, but it does host temporary exhibitions of works by Hungarian and foreign artists.
W przeciwieństwie do sąsiedniego Muzeum Sztuk Pięknych, Pałac Sztuki nie posiada stałej kolekcji, natomiast odbywają się w nim czasowe wystawy dzieł artystów węgierskich i zagranicznych.
At the northeastern edge of the square lies the large city park, Varosliget. Depending on the season, it offers various attractions. For example, you can take a hot air balloon ride.
Na północno-wschodnim skraju placu zaczyna się duży park miejski Varosliget. Zależnie od pory roku, oferuje różne atrakcje. Można np przelecieć się balonem.
The building includes restaurants and cafes.
W budynku znajdują się m.in restauracje i kawiarnie.
The lake visible in front of the building turns into a large city ice rink during winter.
Widoczne przed budynkiem jeziorko podczas zimy zamienia się w duże miejskie lodowisko.
In summer you can take a ride on water bikes.
W okresie letnim można na nim popływać rowerami wodnymi.
On the other side of the lake, another interesting tourist attraction in the park and the surrounding area is Vajdahunyad Castle. You could generally spend a whole day exploring the museums and enjoying the park's attractions. Unfortunately, we didn't have that much time, so our sightseeing was limited to a walk.
Po drugiej stronie jeziora znajduje się kolejna ciekawa atrakcja turystyczna parku i całej okolicy, czyli Zamek Vajdahunyad. Ogólnie można spędzić cały dzień zwiedzając muzea i korzystając z atrakcji parku. My niestety aż tyle tego czasu nie mieliśmy, więc nasze zwiedzanie ograniczyło się do spaceru.
