Hello, everyone.
Let me begin with a question: How far are you willing to lower yourself—set aside pride, step out of your comfort zone—just to connect with and engage your students?
For those of you who are teachers, I believe this question resonates deeply. I can relate to it as well. Having grown up with a mother who is a teacher, I never imagined that I would gradually find myself walking a similar path, teaching a foreign language.
Teaching, as many of you know, is far from easy, even in a work-from-home setup. It requires constant adjustment, patience, and understanding, especially when working with students from diverse backgrounds. Over time, I have encountered many lively and cheerful learners, and in response, I have learned to adapt and sometimes even becoming a performer of sorts just to keep them engaged. It may sound amusing, but it is part of what makes teaching both challenging and fulfilling.
Of course, discipline plays a crucial role. Like any profession, success in teaching demands consistency and effort. Yet, when there is genuine passion and willingness, the challenges become lighter and the journey more meaningful.
Personally, I faced several difficulties when I first entered this field. I was accustomed to using complex vocabulary and technical expressions. However, teaching foreign students required me to simplify my language and to communicate clearly and effectively without losing meaning. This adjustment was not easy, but it taught me an essential lesson: true communication is not about sounding sophisticated, but about being understood.
What made the experience even more demanding was my situation at the time. I was only 17 years old, a Grade 11 STEM student, trying to balance academic responsibilities with professional work. Time management became a necessity rather than a choice. I understand that it may seem unusual for someone my age to take on such a role, but during the interview, my communication skills were assessed positively, and I was given the opportunity. For that, I remain deeply grateful. I truly believe that it was a blessing from God.
As I moved forward and eventually graduated from senior high school, my appreciation for this work only grew stronger. Teaching has not only provided me with experience but has also shaped my character, strengthened my patience, and deepened my sense of purpose.
To anyone considering this path, I sincerely recommend it. It is not without its challenges, but it is undeniably rewarding. More importantly, I believe that each of us is called to something greater and sometimes, it begins in the simple act of helping others learn.
Thank you for reading, and I’m sending warm regards to everyone.
