When Stinc first decided and announced they would implement ads to ease the pressure of their programmatic dumping of their ninja-mined STEEM ( currently 800k per month) I embraced this idea open-handedly, not because I enjoy seeing ads or because they would then be able to sell less STEEM per month to keep them afloat nor because they could use this newly created revenue stream to bring back some of the devs they fired recently and thus speed up development again.
The only reason I supported this idea of ads on Steemit was because they were supposed to be only shown to outside visitors or more precisely anyone who is visiting Steemit and isn't logged in.
I thought that was a marvelous idea as it meant that we who are logged in and use Steemit to either contribute content to the Steem blockchain or interact with it in some way or another, wouldn't be bothered by annoying ads, while those that stumble upon our posts elsewhere online would be shown ads and Stinc would profit from them.
Although there was never mention of any sharing model to split the profits with content creators who are the only reason Stinc makes anything from ads, I keenly embraced this model as it was unobtrusive to content creators.
With the recent update on the implementation of the long-awaited condenser split, which was as expected, done poorly and unprofessionally, it came to light that the before-mentioned model was not what they had in mind and that the only reason why logged in users weren't shown ads beforehand is solely because they could potentially be used by malicious users to gain access of our funds.
Now when they have managed to split the WALLET and MARKET functionality from SOCIAL they not only wreaked havoc amongst community members some of which are now unable to access of their wallets, they also started showing Google's disgusting, archaic and obtrusive, eyesore ads all over their equally archaic and unprofessional front-end.
I don't know why this even surprises me at this point. They proved many times before how little they care about user experience and how little they value our time using their platform which perplexes me every time as we are the main driving force behind their possible future success and long-term viability. Every single thing they did so far is an oxymoron and most of the times it seems like they are intentionally shooting themselves in the foot to halt further development of this chain of blocks.
The absurdity of their actions has now reached the point at which I'm seriously asking myself if they are paid by competitive blockchains to drive this chain to the ground or at least halt its development enough so that competitors have time to innovate and take over?
This place had an outstanding first-move advantage when created an ingenious economic structure, incentives, censorship-resistance and a true competitor to the current centralized social media platforms which outright censor users who's opinion they don't agree with or who don't follow the mainstream narrative of any given event. With
gone,
quickly got intoxicated on the power elixir and things soon got out of control. One bad decision after another, some serious lack of development and concerning lack of competence, the enormous advantage Steemit and Steem blockchain had has dissolved quicker than an ice cube floating in a cocktail on a hot summer day.
Now with one of the evilest corporations on the entire planet tracking our every single keystroke and post we visit, it seems that Stinc just hammered in the last nail in their coffin and it's about to get lowered into the ground.
I suspect that a huge brain-drain will follow their latest decision to drown us in ads rather quicky and that most users and hopefully outside visitors will stop using Steemit.com and opt-in other Steem front-ends like ,
,
,
etc, which are much cleaner, better designed front-ends that don't poke a stick into one's eye as Steemit does to anyone who spends more than two seconds using it.
As for the future of the Steem blockchain, even with Stinc constantly shooting it in the foot, halting development and driving users away, I still think is very bright. Over the next couple of years, we will see many talented developers forming teams of like-minded and equally talented individuals that will keep pushing this chain of blocks in the right direction by delivering dapps, games and Steem interfaces far out of reach what Stinc could ever hope to develop themselves.
Consequently, these teams will slowly but surely take ground from Stinc, further decentralize and overtake this blockchain with constructive, well thought out solutions which will undoubtedly be a much better situation than the one in which we are currently stuck in.
Steemit will soon be forgotten by many and when our habitual human nature allows us to, most of us will migrate to other Steem front-ends.
NOTE: If you still want to use Steemit but don't want ads to ruin your experience, install AdBlocker if you use Chrome browser or just opt-out of Google entirely and opt-in Brave browser which kills of all ads, trackers and scripts.
