Hi Steemit and dear followers!
Today I want to share with you that I have finished my bachelor thesis in Latin American Studies!
The reason I’m so excited about this is that it was a project that I have worked on for over half a year and now it’s finally completed. It was a long journey with lots of stress, but also lots of revelations and it really motivates me to have written a such a piece of work. It especially motivates me to see that I have written 15,000 words in academic Spanish, which I had learned in only a year and a half! (I’m Dutch btw).
Because of possible plagiarism I can’t tell you much about the actual content, but I will try to give you an idea.
The investigation I conducted was about “Nationalism in Panama during the Omar Torrijos regime and its influence on the repossession of the Panama Canal”. For those that don’t know, since the independence of the Republic of Panama in 1903, the United States had owned a piece of sovereign land to build the Panama Canal on. This was called the Canal Zone. For 74 years the US had had control over the Canal Zone until Omar Torrijos and president Jimmy Carter signed the Panama Canal Treaties in 1977.
My investigation looked at how much influence the nationalistic policies and discourse of the Torrijos regime had in the process of negotiating the transfer of the Canal to Panama. As my thesis is still in the process of evaluation, I can’t tell you about my findings yet, but I can tell you that there’s more to it than you would read on your average wikipedia article.

Anyways, this is the end of my bachelor program. I will now go on to obtain a master’s degree in international relations and geopolitics, and I will definitely write more about those topics here on Steemit.
