Chrome tipped at the Port of Richards Bay!!
Last week I visited the Port of Richard's Bay for work, to do some process mapping for export chrome. While visiting the Port, I had the chance to visit the tipplers where the chrome trains are off-loaded. The video shows how it is done. This tippler has a capacity to off-load 225 wagons a day.
The large red structure is the dust extractors, thus basically a giant vacuum cleaner!!
The photo above shows how the charger arm couples to the loaded wagons.
Just see how easy the tippler tips a fully loaded wagon, of just under 80 tons in weight!!
This Port also has the biggest Coal Export facility in the world, you can read more about the Port of Richard's Bay by clicking on the link.
I enjoyed my trip to the Port, but was glad to be back home again!!
I hope you enjoyed the post as much as I enjoyed writing it.
The photos, were taken by me, with my iPhone, at the Port of Richards Bay, South Africa.
