The big question that most individuals would pose in life would be; does my partner really love me? When dealing with relationships, emotional aspects may be misleading at times. Love is beautiful but according to the Bible, our decisions should be influenced by wisdom and the will of God as well. Being a Christian, I do not think that a good mate should be a person we love, but he/she must assist us to serve God religiously.
To begin with, the bible tells us that a relationship must draw us closer to God and not to be even closer to Him. According to 2 Corinthians 6:14, it states as follows, be ye not unequally yoked with nonbelievers. This verse makes us remember that faith plays a very important role when it comes to selection of the partner. When there is no common faith and commitment of two individuals to God, then there come numerous challenges in their relationship. I have learnt the spiritual unity is more valuable than physical attraction or short-term feelings.
Second, a partner to be had must be of good character. The Bible is talking about the patient, kind, and sincere love. In 1 Corinthians 13:4-7, it is indicated that love is long-suffering, kind... it is not self-seeking. As I put this in my mind, I know that real love is not self-centered. One of our partners will respect us, will take care of us and will motivate us to do the right thing in the eyes of God.
In addition, prayer and wisdom play a very significant role in making a choice of the partner. Proverbs 3: 5-6 teaches that one should put faith in the Lord with all his heart, and the Lord will guide the ways. There are times when I am not sure of what to expect tomorrow; however, having faith in God makes me recall that He can help me make decisions. It is in praying and asking His wisdom that He may aid us in seeing clearly.
To sum up, a partner to us is one who believes in our faith, loves us genuinely and makes us get closer to the God. Our relationships are not only supposed to make us joyful, but should also enhance us to better followers of Christ. When we have faith in God and obey his word we can be sure that God will send us to the right person.
