The fish was like staring at me...
So after a month of vegan menu, we were excited to start eating non-veg today. My mother does eats only fish, so I was very much interested to get something special for her. After all, as a parent, they always did that. Didn't they always try to find the best for us ? As a child, it's our duty to fulfill all their wishes now. The satisfaction that comes with that duty is unmatched. It's our turn to do everything for them at their old age when they are alive. Since she has just recovered from a critical illness, I was exploring possibilities to get some fresh fish.
Couple of weeks back, we had been to a very close friend's place for a picnic ( all men's party with some amazing natural places about which I will post) and he organized some nice foods out of which, Fish fresh from river was on the menu. I never ate such tasty fish earlier and was delighted with the taste so much that, we ate fish mostly and chicken / mutton were kept aside. He is in such a position to be able to get it - it's literally difficult for us to get these fresh fish from the river - whatever money you give. The reason being, they just get sold there only and never comes to market. What we eat is mostly cultivated fish - they are not the happiest fishπ. They are given food but these river fishes are all natural - that must be the reason for them being tasty. He got 3-4 fishes which were in the range of 2.5 - 4kg weight - I have bought similar fishes from market - but they do not taste the same.
I called him yesterday evening and he said he will try to get it for Mom - he is like our family member so he knows about Mom. And what he sent today was absolute delight - a 2.5 kg Rohu fish from River. A person drove 40 km to deliver it - all free. Sometimes, money cannot buy what you get through relationship. Mom was very happy - she was not aware of all these so she was pushing me to go to market and get something. I was just taking the plea of very bad weather in the morning and waiting to give her a surprise.
The weather was so bad that a cow was taking shelter just beside our wall.
She got super recharged seeing the fish and started cleaning up them and then frying - we both ate couple of pieces each in the fry quickly. And here was what in Lunch - a very tasty fish curry , fish fries , spinach, brinjal(Eggplant aubergine) fry ,
Carambola curry (sweet).
After a long time, I felt eating till the throat π - the fish brain was an absolute delight. And do you know we have a name for today - Its called Chhadakhai - eating non-veg after some gap - there is a Wiki for it as well. All the non-veg items sell at higher price today. And do you also know how to identify the freshness of a fish ? The best indicator is its eye. If it looks like staring at you alive, then its super fresh.
