There are many mysteries in this world that we haven’t solved yet and pondering about them, not knowing the exact answers can be a real annoying thing sometimes.
Forget about the other things for a second, we haven’t even answered all the questions relating to our own bodies and minds! Things like consciousness and intelligence are still not fully explained.
Dreams are another one of those mysteries. We all have them and we kind of know how they occur but it hasn’t been established why exactly do we have them or the meaning behind the many vivid dreams that we see at times.
I was talking to a friend today and she said jokingly what if dreams were connected? As in, two people having the same experience of the same dream and this kind of relates to what was shown in one of the episodes of Black Mirror.
Connected Dreams?
Dreams feel very surreal to us and when we do remember them, it feels like we actually lived the experience we had in the dream. So, imagine if these dreams were interactive and more like a connected world just like how the real world is!
Imagine that you and your friends live in different states of a country. There are tons of ways to stay connected with each other but nothing feels like actually meeting them in person.
But what if all of you could have a shared dream experience where you would all be in the same dream and could hang out and chill at any place of your desire and do whatever you wanted, because guess what? It’s a dream!
And since dreams feel so real, you would kinda have a feeling that you actually met your buddies when you wake up in the real world!
Is This Possible?
Well, many technologies would need to come together for this to work and I might be missing some pieces but this is what I think. Basically we would need virtual reality tech to be of the utmost cutting edge type.
Thankfully developments in virtual reality has already begun and there are already so many immersive experiences that we can have with our friends. This virtual reality would provide the ‘dreamworld’ for our connected dreams.
Then since we would like to have this experience in our sleep, I am guessing that our consciousness would have to be involved somehow? So, that our “true self” can be transported to the virtual reality. Anything less and we wouldn’t feel the same to our friends over there.
Unfortunately we don’t have anything remotely that can allow us to do that. Maybe one day! This idea was also explored in one of the episodes in Black Mirror where people can choose to live forever in the cloud, in a virtual reality setup.
The future will surely be a strange place if any of this actually came to be. One can only wait and watch the kind of advances that our kind will drum up!
