The Wise Cat
Billy was a cat and he was very wise. All the animals respected him. The humans also loved him. The naughty children did not bother him. They used to usually tease the other animals who became afraid when the bunch would come to play on the farm when there was no school.
Billy was an ordinary cat with a white coat and black spots. He was very clean and spend a lot of time cleaning himself as all cats do. The housewife liked him most as he helped keep the rodents away. She fed him tidbits and tasty treats. He just needed to peep through the door and she was ready with a treat.
One day as usual, he decided to go the kitchen for a treat. The smell was divine and he knew that the lady had been baking. He heard a noise and decided to look. What he saw horrified him. There was a tall human, all dressed in black and attacking the lady. She had fallen and he was trying to take her money box. The money box was where the lady kept the change which she got by selling farm fresh foods and baked treats to those who came to buy it.
Billy wondered what to do. The farmer and his helpers were not there as they had gone to the fields. His cries would not bring them down. He decided to run at top speed to the dog, Asher. Asher was an old dog and so he was not chained and was not taken to the fields either.
Billy ran to Asher and appraised him of the situation. Asher decided to bark the place down and thus alert all. He started to bark madly. Meanwhile, Billy went back to the kitchen and saw that the man was frantically trying to take away the money box which was stuck. He saw a pile of bamboo sticks placed outside the kitchen and quickly pushed it by jumping on it. The bamboo sticks fell across and blocked the entrance. Thankfully, Billy jumped away just in time and did not get hurt.
The farmer and his helpers arrived and they took in the situation. The lady was nursed and the man was arrested. Later that evening, the farmer came home with a huge treat for Billy and Asher who were very pleased. The lady also gave them both her share of treats. He also got to sit on her lap and she stroked him. Life was indeed good.
