RANT-ALERT
Pop-star Katy Perry is painting her fingernails with different crypto currencies, and 50 cent remembers that he accepted Bitcoin as payment in 2014, and is suddenly a Bitcoin millionaire. The soccer team arsenal is advertising for cryptos on their soccer suits and Floyd Mayweather is taking pictures of himself with a pile of money on a privat jet while hashtagging Bitcoin. Even Paris Hilton is into cryptos
Tai Lopez has gone from being an "entrepreneur"-channel on Youtube to almost exclusively crypto channel now. JrGarage has been focusing on JrBusiness instead acting as they have a clue on cryptos.
You get the picture. Now, is this good or bad?
I've seen some clips with Kate Perry, and she is just incredibly dumb. I don't say that because she plays on sex and makes horrible music. There are many highly intelligent people playing on sex and making bad music. But from what I've seen, she seems very confused and lacks the basic understanding of the world which usually means fairly low IQ (low mid 90s)
50 Cent doesn't exactly strike me as a brain surgeon either. And again, understand where I'm coming from. I don't judge him for being a black rapper. If it was Wu Tang's GZA, Killer Mike or even Ice Cube, I could be like..ok..these are fairly intelligent people who absolutely could have done their research on Bitcoin or other cryptos. 50 cent? Not so much.
Remember however, that these people have a lot of resourceful people around them. And even though Kate Perry might be a fairly stupid person, she is probably exposed to every buzz-thing out there faster than most people. I mean, she goes to cool parties with rich people, so you're almost guaranteed to run into some crypto-lords.
Also, cryptos are cool. For many people there is a lot of mystery around them. Which possibly could also suit the whole "illuminati" carnival these people are playing.
So, while this indicates that cryptos definitely is going mainstream - should we draw negative conclusions because of that? I'm not so certain..
Although there is definitely a lot of attention on cryptos now (60% of americans know about Bitcoin, and according to a new survey 5% owns cryptos. Keep in mind that surveys like this can vary as much as +- 3% so the real number could very well be 2% owns Bitcoin. Also, how big is the average wallet worth? 100$? 200$?) everything seems upside down. The first investors were regular folks. Geeks, computerguys, anarchists and conspiracy people. Then the very smart people entered. Then celebrities and athletes. and then last but not least - investors and institutions. And even after that, we will see normal people finally accepting cryptos.
There is definitely something different going on this time around. We have a brand new technology that is embraced by anarchists and programmers, then it's embraced by clever young people understanding trends. Then the actors and superstars jump on and it goes mainstream. It's very rock'n roll in a way. And at the same time governments and banks are scared shitless trying to put a stop to it.
My bone marrow really wants to tell me that when Kate fucking Perry paints he fingernails with Stellar, it's time to call it the night. But my rational mind tells me otherwise. Kate perry probably doesn't personally know a lot about how cryptos work. For her it's a hype thing. It's cool. It's something to build an image around. She doesn't understand any of the implications or morality or fundamental things this potentially can change.
I've often talked about what I believe this fundamentally is about - namely a war of value systems. It's a fundamental war. To me it's very easy. When I say I don't approve of taxation or governments, people tell me "it's the social contract". Well, I didn't sign a social contract. Then they tell me "but you've enjoyed the goods"..well, I didn't have much of a choice did I? If I was enslaved from birth, growing up in what I consider a human hating society , forced through terrible public school, bullying, abuse, ending up with drugs and no self esteem. Sure, I can pull myself up - and I did. But not thanks to any "social contract". It was not our society that enabled me to pull myself up. It was DESPITE our so called social contract welfare system that I made it.
Cryptocurrencies represent purity to me. Cryptos has sparked something in me. I love writing about it, investing in it, learning about it, understanding it. And ultimately, understanding cryptos is about understanding freedom. And if you truly understand freedom, you understand that freedom is the same as personal responsibility. No one will tell you how to live your life, or what to make of it. But at the same time, you can't come running to mommy for help.
And with cryptos these past years, I've seen a glimpse of what free markets - freedom, does to me, and to others in the space. MAN have we grown, learned, earned and done our best. To take responsibility is truly something humanity has forgotten. People have been taught to come up with excuses, blame the white man, cry about wage gaps where there in reality are none, and so on and so forth. Just a bunch of grown ups acting like children.
Cryptos to me represent the opposite of that.
I doubt Kate Perry understands that. I doubt most people on Steemit understands that. I doubt most people in pump'n dump groups understand that. I even doubt most people who do understand it even agrees with me.
So to round it up..I'm ambivalent about the future. I know Blockchain technology and utility tokens will revolutionize the world. Which is of course awesome. But I also think it will be regulated, inhibited and not ever to be seen at full capacity or in it's full glory. We can only achieve that in a fully free market with no interference of governments or banks. And it saddens me a little bit that I probably will never see that happen.
I guess I have to accept the dumbed down version of cryptos. It's still going to be awesome. But it's a world where Kate Perry paints her fingernails in Litecoin without understanding what peer2peer transactions really mean. How "beautiful" that is. And it's not just her..it's all the smart people as well not seeing the beauty of that. The people that gets angry at you for talking "blasphemy" like that. WHAT? A world where you have to write down your own passphrase? People don't want to do that! I want to be able to call a service and let them help me. (The exact words of a person I know with at least 130 IQ)
Even in the "anarchist" camp we can't even decide on some common core principles like non-violence. People want to force you to join their community and they call themselves anarchist. We're "anarcho-communists you see..we're basically like the current government only a lot more incompetent and violent"
Also, I see people flocking around SJW-narratives in the crypto space as well. I'm really disappointed in many people even here. So many people all ready use the blockchain, but they have no idea what sort of IDEAL it represent.
I guess I've been hoping for too much the entire time - and to end on a positive note, at least crypto currencies will improve the world dramatically moving forward. Regulations or not - I believe this technology will help us take quantum leaps forward.
Hope you all enjoyed it (It really turned into a long rant this time..lol) . Please leave a comment with your thoughts!
