The medicinal cannabis industry is really starting to take off in Australia at the moment. The need for good quality medicinal marijuana is hard to come by.
Currently 29 licences have been granted Australia wide to ensure that a good supply of quality product can be provided as the demand for medicinal cannabis increases.
Recently, a growing operation was approved in a suburb of Brisbane. The operation is two minutes' drive from a state school and alongside a sports park and children's playground currently under construction. This has incensed some of the public who obviously have no idea what and how the cannabis will be grown.
The strict requirements of the licensing for these growers is enormous and the naivety of the general public is astounding. People hear that cannabis is being grown and they automatically assume that this site will attract 'bad guys' or something.
The site is zoned for rural uses, such as farming and horticulture, and was also approved by the Queensland Government.
At least the medical fraternity is on the ball. Dr James Finn from the Queensland branch of the Australian Medical Association said increasing the amount of cannabis manufactured in Australia would improve clinical trials.
"We need the product, we need different varieties of the product," he said.
Thankfully the Australian Federal Government has jurisdiction over medicinal cannabis growing and not local authorities. This is a huge step in the right directions for cannabis usage in this country.
Perhaps some of these growers could ask for some advice from some of the resident 'green thumbs' on the smoke network!
