These fantastically colour barnacles are Red Goosenecks. This rare and unique species of gooseneck barnacle only resides in one place on the planet, Tremble Island.
This tiny island is located at the intersection of two major but very narrow waterways located on the central coast of British Columbia. This wooded rock gets its name due to its said to shake during the peak tides, the currents can race past this spot at 16-20 knots.
The island’s trees are covered in numerous signs, left by the crews of ships that were trying to get in and out and had to wait for the tides. Some of the signs date back over 100 years.
A dive here, on the right day, allows you to view something truly amazing but on the wrong day it a different story.
Thanks for reading.
