The New York Knicks have fired Phil Jackson after a rough 3 years at Madison Square Garden. Phil's professional NBA career started in NY and now it has ended there as well.
Phil was drafted as a player way back in 1967 by the Knicks. He played his college ball at North Dakota. Phil helped them win 2 championships in the 1970's before retiring from the NBA , as a player, in 1980.
Phil became head coach of Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls in 1989. He would go on to lead the Bulls to 6 championships including two 3 Peats.
In 1999, Phil became the head coach of the L.A. Lakers. He was blessed with Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal in their primes. He won 5 more championships and became the best coach of all time.
Phil Jackson seemed to be done with basketball after his run with the Lakers. But in 2015, the Knicks offered him a job as president and being in charge of running all basketball operations. Phil struggled in this posistion and it never seemed like a good fit. He has had a Hall of Fame career and will be remembered for his 11 NBA Championships and not his unsuccessful run in New York.
