Another point on my way is Malaysia with its huge capital Kuala Lumpur!
We stopped in the center of the city to get to know its people better and to find out the rhythm in which its heart beats.
If you are wondering what is worth seeing in this huge metropolis, I have prepared a tour plan for you, which will allow you to see the places that in my opinion are the most interesting here.
To make sure that you can see and feel their atmosphere, I add some photos which I took during the trip.
Let's start!
1. China Town - Petaling Street
Here starts not only the path of our trip, but also the history of the whole city.
This place was founded in 1857, and in 2003 it was renovated and successfully functions to this day. Because the district is high, which prevented floods, the pioneers who came to this place have settled here.
As the name of the district indicates, these were mainly Chinese who came here to work in local mines. It was thanks to them that Kuala Lumpur began to grow and grow to such an enormous size, and the district gained the name of the Old Town.
Currently, on Petaling Street, where China Town is located, you will find dozens of stands offering all kinds of products. Most often these are fakes of well-known brands, which you can buy here for a small part of their shop price.
You will also find here numerous restaurants and stands, with a huge selection of local dishes.
The cuisine is dominated by Chinese and Indian, so I recommend to visit this place first, during breakfast time, and gain strength here, before the next trip points.
I recommend to see this place also in the evening, because when darkness falls, beautiful Chinese lanterns are lit, which give this place a unique charm.
2. Sri Maha
This Indian temple was built on private commission in 1873 and, interestingly, was opened to all residents in 1920.
This building is very impressive because of the numerous figures that decorate its roof and interior.
There is a whole spectrum of gods and characters that the Hindu believe in.
There are images of Siva, Lakshmi, Ganesha and other gods.
The sculptures, decorated with gold and precious stones, show the history of the origins of Hinduism and help to get to know it better.
Inside, there are monks who give blessings to the local people, perform rituals, and keep the temple clean.
As in many similar places, also here, before entering, you should cover your body and take off your shoes.
3. Central Market
Nearby the temple of Sri Maha you will find the founded in 1888 Central Market.
It is a place where you will find a huge amount of crafts created by artists representing different minorities living in this colourful city. It is a must-see for all art connoisseurs.
Inside you will find shops with traditional clothes from India and China, sculptures and custom-made paintings. This place is full of colors and perfectly illustrates how diverse the city is Kuala Lumpur.
It is worth taking a moment to see all these works of art and buy original souvenirs, which you will certainly not find on the "normal" street markets.
Apart from the fact that commerce is flourishing on the Central Market, the building is also a place where local people celebrate their holidays and come in crowds to enjoy them together.
4. Kasturi Walk
Finding souvenirs and seeing all the shops in the Central Market will certainly take you a long time and you can get hungry.
The locals know this very well, so right next door you will find the Kasturi Walk.
In this place you will not only eat delicious local dishes and fulfill your thirst with colorful juices. You can also buy here backpacks, T-shirts, scarves and even toys!
Many stands are located under the beautiful arches decorated in Chinese style.
Kasturi Walk has a really unique atmosphere, which is given to all who decide to spend a moment in this place.
5. Forest Eco Park - Bukit Nanas
This place is considered the birthplace of Malaysian culture in the region. In 1857 a mine was established here, which began to attract people who gladly settled in its area.
The original name of this place "Bukit Nanas", is literally translated as "The Hill of Pineapples", which grew here in large numbers.
In 1906 this place became a nature reserve, which to this day occupies an area of over 9 hectares. Its name has been changed several times, but it was finally decided that it is Forest Eco Park.
Apart from the forest, the panorama of the whole city is also very impressive.
Attention: monkeys are flying around the park, jumping from tree to tree and grabbing!
6. Menara - KL Tower
Just behind the nature reserve you will find one of two buildings characteristic for Kuala Lumpur - Menara TV Tower, also called KL Tower.
The building is 421 meters high and was built in 1994.
The viewpoint is located at 282 metres, higher than the one on the Petronas Tower.
It is not an "ordinary balcony", but a restaurant that offers 360-degree panoramic views of the city. The whole is walls are made of glass, so when you walk around you can admire any point in Kuala Lumpur. Ticket prices for adults are 12 USD per person.
It is a truly monumental building, which is supposed to symbolize the pursuit of perfection in our lives.
The tower also makes a great impression viewed from below, not only during the day, but also at night! When darkness falls, beautiful, colorful lights are switched on, they are visible throughout the city and its area. This view is breathtaking!
7. Petronas Towers
They are the symbol of Kuala Lumpur and proudly dominate over the whole city.
The construction of this place was completed in 1998 and since then, until 2004, it has been the highest building in the world!
The structure is 452 meters long, has 88 floors, and on 276 meters you will find a viewpoint, which will allow you to admire the panorama of the city from a slightly different perspective than the terrace on the Menara.
Ticket prices for adults are 20 USD per person.
Interestingly, the towers were built by two separate companies, and the second one was completed a month earlier, even though the work on the tower started one month later.
A characteristic element of the building is a bridge connecting the two towers - it is located on the 41st and 42nd floors of the buildings. It measures 58 metres and stretches on high of 170 metres!
It is an office building, and companies that can afford to lease space here are perceived as very prestigious.
The building offers also a shopping centre with numerous shops and restaurants, museums, an art gallery, a mosque and even a philharmonic!
The building is especially impressive in the evening that's why I arranged my trip plan in such a way to get there after dark.
The backlighting of the towers keeps the view in your memory for a long time!
8. Park KLCC – Lake Symphony
After a whole day of attractions you can rest in the park, which is located right next to the exit from Petronas Towers.
The whole area is very well cared - beautifully trimmed grass, many small lakes and little arbors make it worth sitting there and awaiting for a water show.
The Lake Symphony is a fantastic play of light, colour and water streaming to the rhythm of music from numerous fountains.
The performance starts at about 20:00 and lasts 30 minutes. You can admire them from the park bench and share the impressions of the whole day spent in Kuala Lumpur.
I hope that you will have the opportunity to get to know the charms of this unique city and then use the trip plan that I have prepared for you.
I started the tour at 10:00 and finished at about 20:00, so following my instructions you have a recipe for spending fantastic moments and enjoying amazing views in the capital of Malaysia.
Let me know which of the places of interest you like the most and you would like to see it?
I look forward for your comments! :)
