Look, if I go to Hivefest, it’ll be to meet people. I’ll watch a few speeches because I want to know what is happening outside of my bubble, and because I might as well, but the main reason to go is to meet people.
As of right now I don’t know anyone going other than project leaders and if I can meet them great but something tells me they’ll all be more interested in meeting each other than me.
So I want to find some bloggers or creators who are going.
Every year since 2017, I watched Hivefest from the sidelines, thinking “One day…” and this year is shaping up to be that one day, but many of my good friends at Hive have left or are still not able to make it.
I was in such a bad place financially during the first few stee….sorry, Hivefests. The first few were in Europe and I was literaly homeless, at the tail end of 5 years as a nearly penniless drifter wandering around in East Asia.
I finally moved back to Japan and got a job right before the Bangkok Hivefest but I only had a little bit of crypto to my name and I didn’t want to piss half of it away on a single trip.
Now, I’m doing a tad bit better, thanks to a conservative HODLer mentality and some patience. If I am only relying on my income it will still be a bit tough but I am planning to take some BTC profits this cycle and that will make it a lot easier.
Malaysia isn’t too far…. from Japan it’s still a 5 hour flight. Close enough though!
I hope to make it a long trip, after Hivefest stopping somehwere else for 5-7 days, either Ipoh nearby, a beach town if anyone else is going, or Yogyakarta in Indonesia.
Actually I’ve been wanting to go to Indonesia since 2020 but due to the pandemic my plans were cancelled.
I am 75% sure I will make it this time…and if I can find a few more people going it’ll push it up to 100%.
I’m not particularly interested in Kuala Lumpur because it’s a commercial center, and I am more interested in underground art and music more nature based lifestyles, anything less corproate. (If you have any recommendations in Malaysia or nearby let me know!)
But it’s Hivefest…I have been blogging here for 8 years and have a significant portion of my savings in Hive. I gotta make it at least once right?
So my first reason for going is that I want to meet whoever I can from Hive.
The second reason is to travel nearby, and the third reason is that I hope one day to organize my own events and make them Hive related and maybe I can get the ball rolling with people I meet there.
It would be cool to organize a smaller, more casual and cheaper event in the future. Imagine one third the price for tickets and hotel on the beach somewhere, less speeches and more chatting and exploring together, maybe on a smaller scale.
Another idea I am playing with is organizing something completely unrelated to Hive on the surface but invite hive people to join me and make HBD the official currency of the event, then have a little Hive seminar during the event.
This is still just an idea, feel free to reach out if you are interested.
For now I just want to know 2 things..
1 Who is going to hivefest in KL?
2 How hard would it be to get a physical marketplace going? and I would love to sell yarn wallets hats and earings and I would love even more to see other people selling their products, services and maybe some souvineers from their home country.
And I guess as a side note
3 Who would be interested in a cheaper, smaller event in Asia somewhere near the beach in 2026? A Hivefest X of sorts.
