그저께 이곳에서 글을 처음 남겼는데, 보팅이라는것도 받아보고 읽는분도 보이고 그래서 참 감사합니다.
그런데 인사글부터 남기지 않았다고 친구한테 야단맞았습니다..^^;

저는 현재 네덜란드에 살고 있는 아주 늦은 대학원생입니다. 음악을 공부하고 있습니다.
가족들이 함께와서 살고 있고, 언제까지 이곳에 있게 될지는 현재 잘 모르겠네요.
음악이 주로 하는 일이다보니, 소리에 관심이 많고 음반제작하는 일도 하고 있습니다.
그래서 음향장비들을 아주 오랜시간동안 다루었습니다.
현재도 음반제작하는 일을 하고 있고, 음악환경이 특히 클래시컬한 음악, 어쿠스틱한 음악을 하기에 아주 좋은 환경이라 음반을 더욱 많이 만들고 가고 싶다는 생각을 하고 있습니다.
제가 현재 사는 곳은 네덜란드와 벨기에, 독일의 국경이 모인곳에서 살고 있습니다. 독일까지는 차로 3분, 벨기에까지는 차로 10분정도 거리에 있습니다.
독일은 매일 가게 되네요. 새벽에 교회에 가느라 매일 가는데다, 장보러 독일에 주로 가게됩니다.
네덜란드나 벨기에보다 생활물가가 독일이 많이 싼편이거든요.
이곳에와서 참 많은 생각들을 하게 됩니다.
오디오인터페이스는 컴퓨터로 음악을 듣는데 필요한 DA컨버터의 일종입니다.
DA컨버터는 Digital to Analog컨버터를 이야기하는 것인데, 디지털로 된 음악파일을 아날로그의 세상에서 들을 수 있게 해주는 기기입니다.
보통 오디오인터페이스를 일반적으로 음악을 듣는데 사용하는 기기처럼 부르자면 사운드카드입니다.
카드라고하기엔 카드형태가 아닌경우가 많기도합니다.
요즘 세상에 사운드카드나 오디오인터페이스라는 것을 모르는 경우가 오히려 드물것 같아서 할 필요가 있을까 싶습니다만..암튼..
복잡한 이야기하지않고 간단히 몇개만 이야기해보고자 합니다.
지금까지 음악관련 일을 해오면서 오디오기기에 빠져서 많은 돈을-작은 아파트 한채 값은 됨직한 돈-쏟아부어보기도 하였습니다. 현재는 지금까지 했던 그 많은 소비들이 제게 솔직히 아무 의미없이 다가오지만..
좋다는 기기로 해상도 높고 입체감 있게, 충분한 음량과 좋은 음색으로 듣는다 한들 그저 인생의 아주 작은 일부분을 채우는 욕심을 해소하는 일일 뿐이라고 생각합니다.
음악을 듣지 않아도, 혹은 들어도 좋은 소리가 아니라 할지라도 충분히 의미있게 다가오는 소리들이 많으니까요..
아마 앞으로 제가 만들려고 하는 음악도 같은 맥락의 생각에서 출발하고 결론지어지게 될것이라 생각합니다.
해상도나 음량등이 어느정도 기본이라고 생각되는 정도만 된다면, 아니 그것조차도 어렵다할지라도..듣고 싶은 음악이 될 수 있고, 의미있는 음악이 될 수 있을것이라 생각합니다.
(이렇게 이야긴 하지만, 오랜시간동안 길들여진 습관처럼 기본적인 것-음량, 해상도, 입체감, 잔향, 정위감등-에 대한 집착이 쉽게 사라지진 않으리라 생각합니다...^^;)

컴퓨터로 음악듣는데 필요한 기기들 중 사운드카드, 오디오 인터페이스를 고르는 방법을 이유를 들어 추천을 해볼까 합니다.
이것은 무조건 제 개인적인 의견임을 확실히 말씀드립니다 :)
고르는 방법...
- 가격이 가장 중요한 관건입니다.
대부분의 기기들이 가격에 따라 품질이 정해지는것은 당연합니다. 부품도 좋은것들(왜곡이 적게되고 다이나믹레인지-감당할 수 있는 범위-도 크고 그런 부품들)을 쓰고, 만듬새도 다릅니다.
만듬새가 다른게 소리와 무슨상관이 있나 할 수도 있습니다만...
중요부품이 똑 같아도 가격에 따라 소리가 누구나 인정할만큼 확.실.히 다릅니다. 다른부분에서 다른것이겠습니다. 부품들의 연결선을 어떤것을 사용하느냐, 전원부를 어떻게 설계하느냐, 기판을 어떤것을 쓰느냐 등등에 변수가 아주 많아서 , 그 변수들을 가장 좋은쪽으로 비용을 들여가며 수정해나가는 기기들이 완성도가 높게 되어 있겠지요.
결론은 가격이 소리를 결정한다고 볼 수 있고, 그에 따라 소리의 질도 예상이 가능합니다.
- 가격만으로 보기엔 다른 변수가 있습니다.
약 200만원정도까지의 기기들은 가격에 따라 소리의 질 차이가 상당히 납니다.
그렇지만...어느정도이상의 가격을 지불하는 기기를 구입하시게 된다면...
더 많은 비용을 지불하고도 별 차이가 안나게 느껴질 수 있습니다.
높은 가격대의 기기들에는 아주 작은 차이로 가격이 아주아주 많이 차이나거든요.
아주 약간의 차이로 몇백만원에서 몇 천만원까지 왔다갔다 하니깐요.(특히 일반소비자용 기기들을 더욱 그렇더군요. 프로용기기들은 최고가라할지라도 2천만원을 넘기는 경우가 거의 없는데, 일반소비자용 기기들은 1억을 넘기는 경우도 종종 있습니다.)
프로용이라함은 그것으로 돈을 버는데 쓴다는 것인데, 프로용은 외관은 그다지 신경쓰지 않는 경우가 많고 일반소비자용에 비해 비슷한 기계정성능을 갖고 있다면 가격이 저렴할때가 많았습니다.(과거형인 이유는...요즘 프로용기기제조사들이 일반소비자용으로 많이 만들고 있습니다. 가격은 프로용보다 좀 더 비싸게 해서 외관을 화려하게 만들고 하는등으로..)
이쁜것도 중요하지만 가끔은 너무 과도하게 비싼것 아닌가 싶을때가 종종 있긴합니다.^^;
게다가...
일정수준이상의 기기들은 들어도 차이를 잘 모를 수 있습니다. 그 차이가 느껴지려면 차이를 들을 수 있는 기기가 또 필요하거든요. 예를들어 스피커, 헤드폰, 전원상태(전기적인 상태가 좋지 않으면, 잡음때문에 차이가 안들릴수 있습니다. 이게 상당히 종종 있는 일입니다.), 그리고 스피커소리가 나는 공간의 특성(공간도 또 하나의 악기이자 오디오입니다.)

The audio interface is a kind of DA converter needed to listen to music on a computer.
A DA converter is a digital to analog converter that lets you listen to digital music files in an analog world.

이런곳에서 연주하는 팀에게는 특히 합창음악같은데에는 더할나위 없는 악기하나를 가진 셈입니다.
스피커의 소리도 마찬가이지이겠습니다. 스피커에서 나오는 소리가 공간안에서 특정음역대가 너무 도드라지게 들리게 되는, 그래서 다른 소리들을 들리지 않게 하거나 하는 등의 문제점을 갖고 있으면 아무리 좋은 소리도 제대로 들을 수가 없습니다.
오늘은 여기까지 써야할것 같습니다. 생각보다 너무 오래걸리는 이야기네요...^^;
The photo is a church building that I participated in the master class about a month ago.
For a team playing in such a place, it's like having a piece of goooood instrument, especially choral music.
The sound of the speaker is the same. If the sound from the speaker is too loud to be heard within a certain range of the space, so you can not hear other sounds, you can not hear a good sound.
