Come di consueto oggi vi porto dentro una nuova Anteprima di un articolo che fra qualche giorno o settimana vedrete Nella Mente di un SerialFiller, il mio blog interamente incentrato sul mondo delle serie tv e di cui, da qualche mese, ho deciso di regalarvi costantemente, in anticipo su quello che pubblicherò, gran parte dei post che vedrete su www.serialfiller.org.
Joanna è una donna di Cleveland che, arrivata oltre i 30 anni, vive ancora con i genitori, ha alle spalle poche esperienze amorose, non ha molti amici e lavora in un Costco insieme a suo padre. Il passato di Joanna, però, ci racconta di una ragazzina che, a soli 13 anni, ha dovuto combattere con il cancro, con una forma di leucemia dalla quale è riuscita ad uscire.
Cancro sconfitto ma 20 anni dopo la vita non sorride alla protagonista.
Da subito assistiamo ad un forte legame con il mondo delle televendite, legame nato dalla felicità con la quale la piccola Joanna assisteva, da piccola e durante la malattia, in tv alle televendite di un canale nel quale sognerebbe di lavorare, chiamato SVN.
La grande occasione, un po' per caso e senza grossa costruzione, arriva a bussare alla sua porta e cosi Joanna convince tutti durante un provino effettuato per la vendita fittizia di una matita e finisce a lavorare con SVN, accanto ai suoi idoli (che poi come puoi avere come idolo una che vende saponette, profumi e magliette, spiegatemelo voi..).
La sua carriera, e la sua vita, partono qui.
Dopo una settimana di training, si va in onda ed è un disastro.
Licenziata in tronco Joanna si gioca la carta della pietas e rivela il suo passato, omettendo una cosina abbastanza rilevante, ovvero che il cancro lei lo ha sconfitto definitivamente e non temporaneamente.
Per far leva sulla pietas della sua datrice di lavoro, infatti, Joanna confessa una non verità, millantando di essere una donna che sta ancora combattendo con la malattia.
Quella bugia, però, non solo le fa preservare il lavoro ma pare abbia un effetto salvifico sullo stesso e sugli ascolti.
La sensazione è che Joanna Gold, grazie a quella menzogna, possa divenire una star del telemarketing.
Fine del pilot.
Nulla di sconvolgente. Agile. Lineare. Simpatico. Protagonisti abbastanza divertenti. Nulla di estremamente forzato in stile God's Favourite Idiot (qui le first impression).
Tutto molto "clean", tutto molto scorrevole e, a dire la verità, anche abbastanza apprezzabile tant'è che, a fine pilot, la voglia di capire se Joanna verrà poi scoperta, redarguita e messa alla gogna c'è, non con la stessa proporzione con cui avresti voglia di fare un bagno nella spiaggia dei conigli di Lampedusa ora che fuori si superano i 40 gradi ma una leggera voglia di proseguire con la visione c'è.
Voglia di continuare a vederlo: 6++

As usual, today I am bringing you inside a new Preview of an article that in a few days or weeks you will see In the Mind of a SerialFiller, my blog entirely focused on the world of TV series and of which, for the past few months, I have decided to constantly give you, in advance of what I will publish, most of the posts you will see at www.serialfiller.org.

Did you not imagine that the world of telemarketing could brush up against seriality?
Is Vanessa Bayer a name that rings a bell?
Showtime, on May 1 of this year released the pilot of I Love That For You, a comedy written, produced and starring Vanessa Bayer, a face surely known to everyone but not so relevant perception in our country.
You may have seen her in What We Do In The Shadows, Barry, Will & Grace and other comedies.
It is a sympathetic, funny, smiling face hers that lends itself well, not surprisingly, to products that are so untiring to follow.
I Love That For You has an easy, easy, easy concept that is dropped into a context, that of infomercials, quite unprecedented for seriality.
The first impressions, though quite late, come right after the smiling face of Bayer, who here plays Joanna Gold.
Joanna is a Cleveland woman who, having made it past 30, still lives with her parents, has few love experiences behind her, does not have many friends, and works at a Costco with her father. Joanna's past, however, tells us of a young girl who, at only 13 years old, had to battle with cancer, with a form of leukemia from which she was able to recover.
Cancer defeated but 20 years later life does not smile on the protagonist.
Right away we witness a strong connection with the world of infomercials, a connection born of the happiness with which little Joanna watched, as a child and during her illness, on TV infomercials of a channel in which she would dream of working, called SVN.
The big opportunity, somewhat by chance and without much construction, comes knocking on her door, and so Joanna convinces everyone during an audition carried out for the fictitious sale of a pencil and ends up working with SVN, next to her idols (which then how can you have as an idol someone who sells soaps, perfumes and T-shirts, you explain it to me...).
Her career, and her life, starts here.
After a week of training, it goes on the air and is a disaster.
Fired on the spot, Joanna plays the pity card and reveals her past, omitting one little thing that is quite relevant, namely that she beat cancer for good and not temporarily.
To appeal to her employer's pity, in fact, Joanna confesses a non-truth, bragging that she is a woman still battling with the disease.
That lie, however, not only preserves her job but seems to have a saving effect on the same and on the ratings.
The feeling is that Joanna Gold, thanks to that lie, may become a telemarketing star.
End of pilot.
Nothing earth-shattering. Agile. Linear. Sympathetic. Fairly entertaining protagonists. Nothing extremely forced in the style of God's Favourite Idiot (first impressions here).
All very "clean," all very smooth and, to tell the truth, also quite appreciable so much so that, at the end of the pilot, the desire to find out whether Joanna will later be discovered, redacted and pilloried is there, not with the same proportion with which you would want to take a bath in the rabbit beach in Lampedusa now that it is over 40 degrees outside but a slight desire to continue with the viewing is there.
