PREVENTIVE CARES IN RABBITS
HI steemians! Today, is the last post dedicated to preventive medicine in pets, lasts weeks I have written about the preventive cares we should give to a dog a cat and a ferret, Today, I will talk about RABBITS .
More people every time choose a rabbit as a pet, because it is a very up to kids.
We have to take preventive cares, if your rabbit has outdoor live, for indoor rabbits it could be not necessary, but some veterinarians recommend it.
INTERNAL DESPARASITATION
A Lot of rabbits has sublicnical coccidiosis, which is an internal parasite that can make intermittent diarrhea and loose of weight. To detect that parasite your vet, will make a coprologic analysis.
Deworming, also is important if your rabbit eat grass, because your rabbit could be affected by nematods, cestods and trematods.
Deworming is interesant at least 4 times per year.
EXTERNAL DESPARASITATION
The main external parasites, that a rabbit could contract are: ear mites, psoroptes cuniculi (which makes external otitis) skin mites , cheyletella parasitovorax (which makes a dorsal alopecia), and fleas.
For outdoor rabbits, is recommended to be external desparasitated, once per month.
WE HAVE TO STAY ALERT BECAUSE SOME EXTERNAL ANTIPARASITARIAN DRUGS FOR OTHER PETS, COULD BE MORTAL FOR RABBITS. ESPECCIALY FIPRONIL DRUG.
VACCINATION
Outdoor rabbits should be vaccinated from MIXOMATOSIS and HEMORRAGIC VIRAL DISEASE .
We could prevent our rabbit from Pasterellosis and enterotoxemy too, but that diseases are more commons in farm rabbits.
