The experienced individuals say; when a dispute is in progress, it is not good to confess that one has been the evidence. The diplomatic persons believe that one can become closer to the great people by falsification. To understand about the punishment that one has to face for falsification, let us look into the story of mountain Krouncha.
Once, Devendra went to mountain Meru. There, he found a new boy shining like a knife. He felt happy on seeing him. However, Indra became angry for the boy's attitude since he did not even offer salutations to him. Then he said, "Don't you know to offer respects when you meet elders? Do you know about me? I am the king of demigods. I am Devendra." The boy said, "Why should I give respect to you? Your kingdom is a transient one but mine is the permanent Ātma rajya (kingdom of the soul). Small people like you will not know about me. Only the Brahmavēttas (those who know about Brahman) know me." Indra became violent with rage. He said, "O boy! Amongst demigods, there are only two persons who are above me. Do you know? They are Brahma and Shiva. Fine. Let's not talk anymore. Let us both circumambulate around this mountain, Krouncha. Whoever finishes first wins the bet." The boy agreed. With just a difference of few seconds, the boy had won. Since the difference was too slight, Indra argued that he emerged victorious. The argument did not end. Finally, they asked the mountain Krouncha for evidence. The God of mountain Krouncha is none other than the grandson of Himavanta and the son of Mainaka. Both of them have good rapport with Indra. They do not know about the boy at all. So, manipulated and said that Indra had won. Immediately, the boy who had adorned the weapon Shakti in his hand, had hardly hit the mountain Krouncha. With that, Krouncha died. He was broken completely into powder. Indra became surprised for the boy's valour. Knowing this news, Himavanta came there. He understood that the one who killed his grandson is none other than Kumara Swamy, who is the child of Shiva and Parvathi. Indra also panicked. Shiva, Parvathi and Mainaka also reached there. The atmosphere became gloomy. Finally, Shiva said, "Kumara, all of these are our relatives. Himavanta is your grandfather. Krouncha is your brother in law. Indra is very close relative for us. If any of the relatives commit any mistake, punishing them will not bring happiness to the old and elderly people of the family. Such being the case, you have directly killed." Kumara Swamy then asked Shiva to forgive him and brought the life of Krouncha back and Devendra surrendered at the feet of Kumara Swamy. Indra requested Shiva to appoint him as the Senadhipathi, the God of war.
In this story, we must not think that - since mountain Krouncha has taken a rebirth, he has not suffered any punishment. Any being that dies will take rebirth at some or the other time. Here, the punishment given by Kumara Swamy to Krouncha is death penalty. But, when we look at the story, we just feel it very strange when the boy wishes to compete with Indra. However, when Indra looked at the boy shining with great radiance, he felt that he would be of some help to him. He wanted to test the boy's strength and hence he himself entered into an argument with him. Because of the hastiness of mountain Krouncha, the incident soon turned out to be a great havoc. But, from this incident, Kumara Swamy has not only showcased his power of penance and valour but also displayed his subtle decision making skill with respect to dharma. Hence he immediately brought the life of Krouncha back. We also must relate to the stories of Puranas that teach about subtleties of dharma. We must learn from them.
