Amid life’s choppy waters we sail toward the horizon holding hope for transition and transformation — ShadowsPub
Horizons are an optical illusion, yet one that is crucial for navigation on the sea and will change as atmospheric conditions change. They serve as a metaphor for our lives. We never reach the horizon, we can’t see over the horizon, but, we’re always sailing toward the horizon, regardless of the condition of the sea.
Never reaching the horizon reminds us of the boundless nature of our potential. It’s the point where our present self meets our future self. The point where our transition through the waters of life will become transformation or stagnation. There are choices we make on how we navigate life. We can choose to seek growth or be stagnate.
The waters of life can move from dead calm to roaring waves, moving us through life at varying speeds and emotional conditions. Hope is the wind filling the sails moving us toward that ever distant horizon. We can choose to let the wind fill the sails, facing the promise of a new life on the horizon with courage and determination. Or, we can take down the sails and drift aimlessly toward the horizon.
In the Bible the Apostle Paul writes in his letters of the transformative power of faith, calling us to sail into life’s challenges with the hope of spiritual rebirth. Buddhism sees the horizon as enlightenment, a state of ultimate clarity and knowing. In Taoism, the Tao is the horizon, the eternal way that is both the journey and the destination.
All that holds us back from knowing the unknown beyond the horizon is our own fear of the unknown and our willingness to sail toward the horizon. How’s the journey to your horizons today?
