Miscreants have smeared blackened oil on the wall paintings that were painted to celebrate the Bangla New Year in Chittagong University.
The students of fine arts department of Chittagong University painted these pictures l to celebrate the Bangla New Year 1424. But miscreants smeared these wall paintings with burnt oil. Teachers and students have expressed anger and dismay at this act.
The teachers and students of the university said the painting were to celebrate this Baishakh. They were preparing murals to celebrate the occasion till 11.00pm. Sajib Sen, convenor of the institute's Pahela Baishakh celebration committee said the painters came inside the institution at about 11.00pm and also put out the lights. At about 12.00am a number of youths came to the spot and started abusing the art works. The students later found they threw burnt oil on their paintings.
The teachers and students came got together in front of the institute in the morning and expressed their anger. Associate professor of the institute Zahed Ali said "Those who are against Bangali culture have done this. We protest strongly. This is not a good sign. But this will not stop us from celebrating Baishakh." Just like every other year, a procession will be brought out by the institute.
