Introduction
Three days left to make a vote on updating terms of service to prohibit bot use in tourney and brawls as well as battle helpers in modern ranked, tourneys, and brawls. If you didn't know, there already has been a change for no bots in modern ranked but I guess the community doesn't want to stop there. As you can see from the screenshot below, I am for both proposals and I will explain my thoughts on the proposals below.
Thoughts On Prohibiting Bot Use In Tourneys & Brawls
I am actually okay with this proposal and I can see why over 90% of the current votes are for it as well. Personally, I don't think bots should be used in tourneys & brawls as those are competitive spaces. Just imagine you're joining a chess tournament with an engine that makes the perfect move for every game. That's no fun and there's a reason why it's banned in chess.
As for the brawls, I also think of it as a competitive scene. I kind of think of brawls as an esports team vs 9 other esports teams every brawl. It's no fun if one team has some advantage with the bots. I also don't think it takes that much time to play brawls and with a 48 hour time frame to put in any teams; it's more than enough time. On top of that, you have a choice to skip brawls if you can't play it by not joining a fray so there's really no excuse to need a bot to play brawls.
Thoughts On Prohibiting Battle Helper in Modern Ranked, Tourneys & Brawls
This proposal seems quite close that it's barely passing at 72% at the current time of when I made this post. I can kind of see why there are more people against this. I don't think it would be easy to implement this as it would be a witch hunt to figure out who is using battle helpers. If this was banned, I think people would still ignore the rules or just switch to excel sheets. Either that or people want to use battle helpers to win more and gain the system which is why there is more against. I'm not too sure but these are my thoughts. Feel free to add on below if you know why there are more people against prohibiting battle helpers than bots.
Personally, I never used battle helper. I think I'm a fairly above average player with a lot of experience in battles so I do fairly ok most of the time. I don't think it's fun if people can be suggested some top lineups to play as that ruins the "skill" component of the game. I remember the Splinterlands team has talked about valuing skill and if battle helper is allowed is this really a determinate of skill? I guess if we talk about coding skills to see who can develop the best battle helper then there is a skill but is this what was intended for the game. I think no. I think Splinterlands was designed for actual people to play the game with their own brain and skills. If we had tournaments in real life, would we want to see people using battle helper. That would be a huge turn off in a competitive scene and I think for the community to pass this is actually doing the greater good for the future of Splinterlands.
Concluding Thoughts
Both of these proposals are pretty controversial as it will kind of change the team's stance on being bot neutral but since the community has spoken I think it will be accepted since the game is being built for the community. I think all will be fine since bots and battle helpers will have a place in wild. I would just think of wild as a mode where anything goes. Do your best to make the best bot or battle helper. At least there's still a place for them and it really holds to what Yabapmatt envisioned for the game which is to have a defi game that coexists with bots. Let's see if they will stop here but I will be shocked if wild ranked prohibit bots & battle helpers end up on future proposals. That would be a jaw-dropper. Anyways, let's see how it goes. In the end, we all want the best for Splinterlands and that's why the team and community are so passionate about Splinterlands! Let's go Splinterlands!
