a webcomic, by Matt S. Law
Let's see if this post becomes controversial. "Why this post?" I hear you cry.
Because there are still people in Hawaii (and probably elsewhere in Tahiti and other islands) that still actively worship Pele. Or at least perform ceremonial rites acknowledging Pele. For example, on the Big Island of Hawaii, people still attach ti leaves to the four corners of their homes to protect it from lava flows (which explains also why that grass skirt is not burning).
Back when I was doing some skit comedy on Augie TV back in Hawaii, I was doing a weatherman scene where I was forecasting Haleakala erupting, so temperatures on Maui ranged from 400 to 700 degrees (Farenheit). I was kind of famous in my small acting circle for memorizing lines quickly, and also for ad libbing. I threw this line into the sketch: "According to University of Hawaii professor of vulcanology, Peter Fukushima, 'Pele is pissed...'" Right after the "cut" I went to Augie and said, "um... Augie, can I say that?" He said, "Yeah, that was funny!" so hopefully there wasn't any blowback for that from the Hawaiian population.
To divert from my own disrespect for primitive religions I would like to point out that in Marvel comics' Thor #301, Thor actually fights and beats up the Hindu god Shiva. And according to Grok, Shiva has approximately 385 million worshippers in the world right now. So, don't get mad at me, get mad at Stan Lee.
