Twitter has sold users' data to Professor Alexander Kogan of Cambridge University.Global exchange research (GSR) funding for KOGAN allows Twitter to access public Twitter data for one day and data from a few months post.In an interview with Bloomberg, Twitter said that they conducted internal reviews with the information of that research. However, the organization was prevented from taking users' personal information.
In 2015 GRS collects public posts from different users using API access for one time. At that time, the data of five months of users posted from December 2014 to April 2015 is taken.Earlier, Alexander Cagan had worked on behalf of Cambridge Analyst with data from Facebook. There is no scope to get information from other users on Twitter. The GSR company also did not take any information by breaking the policy on Twitter. However, analysts believe that data from Facebook and Twitter may have been coordinated.
