Hello hivers, an happy Friday to you all! The weekend is just around the corner and I'm pretty sure we will have a sunny warm couple of day, perfect to enjoy part of our free time out of home. ❤️
Today I decided to share with you an exercise I made yesterday while my hubby was teaching to his art class inside our lab room. Maybe you know it's common for every student of art to stydy the painter of the past working on similar artworks, so we can learn, for example, how to obtain a specific shades of colors, how to give the strokes in different ways, etc.
I start my way on art when I was an adult, after my 40yo, but almost every day I exercise my hand and my imagination in different ways, included studying the artworks of famous painter. Yesterday I decided to study a painting by the French painter Édouard Manet (1832 – 1883) thanks to one of the many catalogues of art we have at home.
I think his best known artworks is Le déjeuner sur l'herbe that was the start of the style called Impressionism, but I decided to study a portrait he panted in the 1873, the portrait of Berthe Morisot (who was a painter).
I tried to have the same shades of colors mixing together red, black and other ones and, at the end, it was a very useful exercise for me to understand if this shade of red could work for one of my own paintings too. I was also intrigued by the way to paint the collar!
In the following pics you can see the pic of the original painting printed on my catalogue and my exercise close to it (where you can see mine is not so similar to the original, but I wanted to study just this part of it):
In the following one, you can see a step of the process of my exercise:
Thanks to this exercise, now I have an idea in my mind for a new artwork, so stay tuned!
See ya soon and stay safe,
Silvia
