¡Hola! ¿Qué tal están pasando estas festividades? Espero que bien, y aunque cierto es que este año ha sido diferente, bien vale la pena mirar el 2021 con optimismo y esperanza.
Como todos los que ya me conocen saben, tengo un solar, el cual es el espacio que más amo de mi casa, porque en él encuentro una conexión única con la Madre Tierra, que disfruto y valoro; y una de las ventajas de tal conexión es poder sembrar y cosechar parte de mis alimentos. Y para ser franca quisiera producir más, pero las limitaciones de suministro de agua me lo impiden; pero bueno, hago mi mejor esfuerzo en obtener frutos de la hermosa tierra, y es esto lo que hoy les quise compartir: Mi cosecha de cúrcuma (Curcuma longa) de este año 2020.
Hello! How are these holidays going? I hope so, and although it is true that this year has been different, it is well worth looking at 2021 with optimism and hope.
As everyone who already knows me knows, I have a back garden, which is the space that I love the most in my house, because in it I find a unique connection with Mother Earth, which I enjoy and value; and one of the advantages of such a connection is being able to plant and harvest part of my food. And to be frank, I would like to produce more, but water supply limitations prevent me; but hey, I do my best to obtain fruits from the beautiful land, and this is what I wanted to share with you today: My harvest of turmeric (Curcuma longa) this year 2020.

me preguntó respecto al tiempo que tarda la cúrcuma en poder ser cosechada, y le dije que por lo general tarda 8-9 meses, aunque yo la había cosechado en menos tiempo, entre 5-6 meses, sin embargo el rendimiento es mucho menor, los tubérculos son de menor tamaño y en menos cantidad. Por tanto, decidí esperar los 8-9 meses completos, (la había sembrado en marzo de este año) y me esmeré en ofrecerle mejores condiciones a la planta, a la cual sembré en un caucho hueco que está sobre la tierra, en donde recibía cierta cantidad de sombra ya que está cerca del grosellero y afortunadamente llovió con cierta regularidad. El resultado fue espléndido: Mi planta floreció por primera vez desde que la estoy cosechando, (tengo aproximadamente 3 años sembrando cúrcuma), y dio una flor bellísima que ya he publicado en anteriores oportunidades y de pasó me dio un rendimiento asombroso para una sola planta: ¡Casi 1 kilogramo de cúrcuma!

The result was splendid: My plant bloomed for the first time since I was harvesting it, (I have been growing turmeric for about 3 years), and it gave a beautiful flower that I have already published on previous occasions and in the process gave me an amazing yield for a single plant : Almost 1 kilogram of turmeric!

Posteriormente la planta fue declinando, muriendo, lo que indica que ya es tiempo de cosecharla, y esto ocurrió a principios de Diciembre 2020, y la coseché el día 9 de Diciembre.

Procedí entonces a extraer la planta del suelo, halándola cuidadosamente. Una parte de la cúrcuma quedó enterrada, así que la saqué con un palín. Me sorprendió gratamente ver los tubérculos relativamente grandes y sanos.
I then proceeded to extract the plant from the ground, carefully pulling it out. A part of the turmeric was buried, so I removed it with a palin. I was pleasantly surprised to see the relatively large and healthy tubers.
Coloqué las plantas con los tubérculos en una mesa y extraje la cúrcuma cortándola con un cuchillo para colocarla en un tazón.

Obtuve 785 gramos de cúrcuma fresca, que huele y luce increíble, así como un ramo de tubérculos con hojas para resembrar y las hojas que sirvieron de alimento para el Señor Morrocoy y su familia. ¡Estoy encantada con mi cosecha! Ya la estaré utilizando para preparar legumbres, granos y caldos, así como infusiones y tés para mejorar el sistema inmune y prevenir el cáncer.
