Here's a bit of dreary forest for this #wednesdaywalk by
This is an area I like to hunt for mushrooms. This is a raw patch of forest with lots of dead logs and many fungi species and wildlife.
This place is also nice for birdwatching as it is pretty abandoned with hardly any people visiting the area. This is a pretty tame downy woodpecker that didn't mind me getting close enough for a shot.
It was a pretty gray and slightly rainy day with super strong winds crashing through the forest. Enough rain fell to activate this tiny stream.
So far spring hasn't fully sprung yet but the moss is nice and bright. This log looks like its forming a number 1.
Here's a really old stump almost fully consumed by moss.
In the dark atmosphere of the day the moss almost glows neon green.
You can see how many dead logs there are in this area. Perfect for oysters and other wild edible mushrooms.
The slugs are out even though its around 37 degrees out. They have to get to the fungi before I do lol. This one is snacking on a type of orange crust fungi. Sorry no snails this time just a weary slug keeping one eye on me.
There are a few signs of spring.
These little plants were springing up everywhere, I need to learn plant identification more, who knows it might be edible or medicinal.
This tree has some yellow buds forming.
Finally, here's a preview of some of the fungi I found out on this walk. The yellow one is witch's butter and the brown one is wood ear. Both these are edible and I made a nice menudo soup with them, stay tuned for this #fungifriday. Happy #wednesdaywalk :-)
