Have you ever just said WOW and been in awe when you're watching your favorite movies. Seeing how your favorite actors jump from trains, survive explosions, and have superb battle sequences. Or the breathtaking sceneries. Have you ever sat down and just wondered it all??
Well most of them are done by Computer-Generated Imagey and Green Screens (Green Mat Technology).
Computer-generated imagery (CGI) is the application of computer graphics to create images in art, video games, films, television programs and more. Not only do animated images form part of computer-generated imagery, natural looking landscapes are also generated via computer algorithm. The wars and destroyed cities are created using this technology.
In the past film making, film makers used matte painting, miniature models and trick photography to achieve impossible looking cinematic effects. But CGI has stepped it up a notch with CGI and green mat technology.
The Green Mat Technology is widely used in hollywood to create more impact and action worthy movies. The green color used in the background is called Chroma Keying. Any of the primary colors can be used or even the secondary colors.
However the color to be used should not match your skintone or your apparel. Red chroma is mostly avoided due to the red color in our bloos. Hence, blue and green are the most widely used colors.
The origin of blue and green screen techniques were developed by the professional film industry to help separate actors shot in studio from the backgrounds. Later, the blue screen or green screen background was removed digitally and replaced with a new background, shot separately or created in a computer. Blue screens were first used but blue screens had less brightness and exist more in subject colors (blue apparel in generall) than green. Hence green was easier to use and brought out the best quality.
