If you’ve read my last post,Life Update you would know how stressed I had been. I was hoping that would have been the end of it but it wasn’t. There has been others but let’s just focus on the most recent one. We the SRC (Student Representative Council) executives were invited to a USAG(University Students Association of Ghana) senate meeting that was scheduled for 8th October, 2022.

To attend such events, we would first need to get a budget approved by the vice chancellor of the school to secure the funds for the event and as at 7th, we still hadn’t achieved that. There was a lot of back and forth but we were able to get the money by evening. And we had to leave that evening in order to be on time for the meeting the next day. We left Navrango ( where our school is located) on Friday night around 8:00 pm. The meeting was at Kumasi. That’s about 10 hours journey. We were expecting to be in Kumasi at most by 6:00 am but as at 7:00 am, we were still in the bus. The driver was pretty slow. When we finally got down, we found a nearby place and got some food. Right after eating, we got a “trotro” (mini bus) to convey us to the venue which was another university ( Kessben University College). None of us had been there before so we thought the trotro was going to take us straight to the school but it didn’t. He stopped at a point and asked us to join a different one which was going in that direction. Even that one got to the last stop and we still haven’t reached our destination. We had to beg the driver to take us to the school at an extra cost.
When we arrived, we met students from other universities. I believe we were the last to arrive.
The first meeting was supposed to start at 10:00 am and we got there after 10. The first meeting, NEC( National Executive Council) is made up of SRC presidents of all universities.
We were given two rooms, one for the guys and one for the ladies. We took our baths, ironed and waited to attend the next meeting whilst our president went to attend the first one. After waiting for a while, we decided to tour the campus and take some pictures.

Pictures were taken with a friend’s phone.
We got to meet other executives from different universities and exchanged contacts.
It was time for the meeting. The agenda for the meeting was swearing in on senators and appointees of the various committees. The senators are made up of SRC presidents, SRC secretaries, local NUGS (National Union of Ghanaian Students) presidents, NUGS secretaries, and SRC/NUGS Women’s Commissioner. 5 senators from each university.

We were made to stand and take an oath after which appointees of the various committees were introduced and sworn in.
We ate earlier in the morning before 8:00 am and so at this point, we were all starving and it was around 4:00 pm. There was a buffet outside as the meeting was still going on. I left with the other ladies to get the food because at that point we couldn’t take it anymore. The guys joined us later. Before we finished eating, the meeting was over. We quickly went in and packed our things and we were on our way back to town to get a bus and leave. It was around 5:00 pm. We finally made it back to town around 7:00 pm.
Even though we came to the event together, everyone had a different destination in mind. Only a few were returning to school and majority of us were going to different parts of the country since we are on vacation. I was heading to Accra with one of the ladies. We had to move to a different bus station in order to get a bus to our destination. When we got one, it was empty. But we got the tickets and sat and waited. In less than 2 hours, it was full and we set off. I can’t remember the time but it must have been between 9:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Kumasi to Accra is about 4 hours 30 minutes. As we started the journey, I dozed off. I wanted to adjust my chair and be able to sleep well but there was a woman behind me who was complaining I’m making her uncomfortable so I had to sit straight throughout the journey. At a point, I gave up trying to sleep because every part of my body was paining. We got to the bus terminal in Accra around 2:30 am. I could have gone home if I wanted but I thought it would be safer to stay at the station till day break so I did. I was dozing but it was too uncomfortable to sleep.

I remember I took this picture for . You can clearly see from my face that I was barely alive. Must have been around 4 am.
Finally, around 5 am , I ordered an Uber and went home. I didn’t even know what day it was anymore.
When I got into the house, I took out my laptop because I needed to get some letters ready for the president and vice president. I could have done it later but I don’t like delaying things I’ve been assigned to do. Right after, I took a bath and slept. I woke up around 1:30 pm, and ate. I really can’t remember what I did for the rest of that Sunday evening. But I’m sure I spent a little time reading a book a had stated a while ago.I finished it yesterday and this book is really a life-changer.

Maybe I will share some insights from it soon.
For now, I believe I won’t be in any more stressful situations until I start my internship. That’s a story for another day.
