Just recently, the news broke out regarding the proposal of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency for mandatory drug testing for Grade 4 (10 years old) students. Something that raised the eyebrows of many, mine as well, though I’m not against it. I was just wondering how widespread illegal drugs are here in the Philippines.
Are they ‘too young’ to take the drug test? Probably, yes. What is the basis that led to this proposal? I’m not sure. Do I believe that a Grade 4 student is using illegal drugs? It’s a possibility, maybe. But, the decision is not mine. Illegal drug dealers will do everything to sell drugs, while Philippine authorities were also trying everything to eradicate the prohibited drugs in the country.
Parents will play a huge role in assuring their children’s safety as well as the non-participation to the illegal drugs. I understand the fear of the parents, but what I’m anxious about the involvement from illegal drugs is the mistaken identity thing. That’s so hard to swallow if you are in that situation.
