Known as redbirds, the males are a vibrant red color. And the female is a reddish olive color, they mostly feed on grains but also go for insects and fruit. They have an interesting courtship where the male will feed the female grains or seeds as a sign of courtship behavior.
I look forward to checking out the other species one day, as they have other colorings. Such as ones in Tuscon Arizona have gray patches.

I really enjoy seeing this little red birds, they stick out exempt in the fall when the leaves are similar colors to them. This is a male, as by the bright colors its easily noticeable.
He jumped down and roamed around looking for worms and bugs, It just rained and many ground living bugs are flooded from their home. So the birds find this a good opportunity to search for them while they are out in the open.
Ah I think he got one, a little blurry though..
A female shows up a few minutes later, and checks out the area as well. Looking for food to eat as well.
Their call is unique, I can usually tell its a Cardinal. The males mark their territory with these calls so maybe thats why I hear them.. Calling out to all that this is its area.
I am guessing they are mating pairs, no idea where they live but I see a lot of nests in the bare trees. Since its the winter most of our trees have dropped their foliage leaving their nests to be seen in plain sight.
