Feeling nostalgic for missing all the chess tournament last weekend due to my failure to set a reminder when I got more work to do, I decided it would not be a bad idea if I play some bullet, but this time, a bullet tournament. So I played the hourly bullet arena.
I'm 2300 rated in bullet so I was surprised to be among the top 10 players on the starting ranking.
At first I got a slow start against a 250 rated player. I did not play well as I became too passive in the game which got me to waste more time thinking on what my next move will be and that is a rookie mistake when playing bullet.
My position was getting worse as my opponent was launching an attack on my kingside while I was busy eating pawns. That was bad of me and I knew it but I felt if I will retreat with my pieces, it will be difficult for me to find the best defending moves in the game and it is bullet.
Being a strong player, it was no surprise that my opponent for the attack on my king by opening up the files around the king and launching an attack.
This game is a product of a poor sac I made just to gain some initiative in the game. Earlier on, I sense that I was losing so instead of going down without a fight, I decided to sac and this allowed my opponent to blunder. Quickly, after bringing the white queen for exchange, I wasted no time to find the rook check as that is the only move that wins on the spot. Bullet is funny because it is very fast and the moment you make a blunder, just keep playing like nothing happened, you could actually win on time or better your opponent returns the favour by blundering as well.
After my first two losses, it was a streak for me down to the last game. Finishing on 38 points and a rating performance of 2450. It is impressive for me and I sure do have so spectacular bullet techniques.
I would be lie if I say I am not excited by this. Chess is exciting when you are winning. Our of 195 players and I could win the arena. Bullet is fun, a nice way to pass time, if you do not want to do deep thinking, just fun play.
