Our protagonist will be Zappity, with electric powers and superhuman strength. Zappity is a very sweet character—he radiates tenderness and I think he’s very huggable—but that doesn’t mean he isn’t strong and powerful, and that has to come through in the drawing. I didn’t choose him for this prompt by accident. If we’re ready… let’s start drawing!
Hola amigos y comunidad de Holozing, espero estén teniendo un muy lindo día. Hoy continuamos dibujando y llevando a cabo el reto del Zingtober. Me encanta poder estar otro año más participando, así que vamos a seguir el calendario del Inktober para ver cuál es el prompt de hoy... ¡Y el prompt de hoy es Heavy! Nuestro protagonista será Zappity con poder eléctrico y fuerza sobrehumana. Zappity es un personaje muy lindo, transmite mucha ternura, y creo que es muy abrazable, pero eso no quita que sea fuerte y poderoso, y eso se tiene que transmitir en el dibujo. No por gusto lo escogí para este prompt. Si estamos listos... ¡Comencemos a dibujar!
Well, going back to today’s prompt—Heavy—the first thing that comes to mind when I read that word is a gym and someone lifting big, heavy weights or dumbbells. That will be the central idea of today’s drawing, which we’ll be doing entirely in Photoshop. As I mentioned earlier, our protagonist will be Zappity. The official art is quite simple, so we’ll be using it directly as reference. He’ll be lifting a gym dumbbell high above his back. We’ll be using only black and white as per the rules, but we’ll increase the contrast in the areas that would normally be orange to create tonal differentiation. We’ll also play with strong shadows to generate volume and avoid a flat drawing. A funny moment: I was doing my line art on the sketch layer by mistake, but I managed to fix it. After a lot of drawing, today’s piece is finally done—and I think, along with Ocean Healer, it’s one of my favorites. To avoid a flat and simple look, I used a dotted texture brush and an ink blot brush for a quick background. I think we nailed today’s prompt perfectly.
Bueno, regresando al prompt de hoy—Heavy—lo primero que me viene a la mente cuando leo esa palabra es un gimnasio y alguien levantando unas grandes y pesadas pesas o mancuernas. Esa será la idea central del dibujo de hoy, el cual estaremos haciendo totalmente en Photoshop. Como adelantaba, nuestro protagonista será Zappity. El arte oficial es bastante simple, así que lo estaremos usando directamente como referencia. Alzará la mancuerna de gimnasio en todo lo alto sobre sus espaldas. Estaremos usando solo blanco y negro como es la regla, pero aumentaremos el contraste entre las partes que serían naranjas para lograr diferenciación de tonos. Además, estaremos jugando con sombras fuertes para generar volumen y no quedarnos con un dibujo plano. Algo gracioso es que estaba haciendo mi line art en la capa de boceto, pero lo pude solucionar. Después de mucho dibujar, ya tengo listo el dibujo de hoy, y creo que junto al de Ocean Healer es de mis favoritos. Para que no quedara tan simple y plano, utilicé un pincel de textura de puntos y uno de una mancha de tinta para un fondo rápido. Creo que cumplimos el prompt de hoy perfectamente.
