I've been spending all day thinking how in my dark house, especially with winter coming in, I'm going to achieve some decent photography of the scarfs I've been felting. I'm building my own website currently, which is coming along nicely, so it's time there is some real content going to be uploaded on it.
Little did I know that the photography part would be the hardest when I started this adventure.
The mannequin has its own lovely history, but no finished scarf has been shared on this blog so far since I'm picky and don't want to show them before everything is perfect... Which indeed means this part, the photography, is the last bit needed before I can share my work with the world.
Can't wait.
The mannequin has so far been standing on my dinner table, shoved around wildly, only to conclude that the table wouldn't be able to catch enough light today (and for the foreseeable future/until spring). Then I moved her to the hall, where I put her in front of a door only to conclude that the hall was too small for me with the lenses I have to create a sufficient distance between her and my camera on tripod. Then I figured out I could open the door a bit and therefore moving the mannequin a bit further back, only to realize that this would create a shadow from the window onto the photo backdrop. So I had to lower the mannequin, find something stable to put her on as the floor would be too low, grab a box that I had almost thrown away that morning, put her on there, and click click click - this was going to work!
Cold as it is in this hallway I'm now showing the shots to my mom who is picky as well and suggested I should put a dress on the mannequin so she appears taller and the scarf will not 'hang loose in the air' - as you can see in the picture the buste of the mannequin is quite short and the scarfs are longer than her.
So that's where I am now. Going to warm up, drink coffee, find a dress for my mannequin, and try again tomorrow - the light is already 'up and used' for today - unfortunately.
I'm not a patient person - I would have loved uploading my shots to my website today. It will have to wait - a little longer.
