Hey everyone, here's a digital painting I did in 2015 which is a mash-up of a couple of the different faces of Jim Carrey. I've always found Jim as an intriguing person who I believe may be a bit more 'awake' than most people. To be honest I've never been crazy about any of his movies but I can see he's just a human being trying his best to live at his fullest potential no matter what anyone thinks. I've actually recently become aware of his artistic ambitions so that's something to look into for sure.
My greatest Jim Carrey quote has to be this one...
“I think everybody should get rich and famous and do everything they ever dreamed of so they can see that it’s not the answer.”
Such a powerful quote when you really read what he's saying. Most people live their lives to a financial goal but here's a man who has reached this goal and he's telling people that it isn't the answer and it is in fact an illusion to finding happiness. Still, I've seen many people dismiss this and go into hate mode because he has reached somewhere they haven't, never really even seeing that if they stopped craving this imaginary happiness, they could just... be happy.
I look at it as simply as watching kids play. They don't have a big house, they don't have a fancy car, they don't even give a shit what's in their bank account. If they're smiling and playing and singing and dancing and painting..... then they're happy! Not tomorrow or the next day... but now! Of course you need food, water, clothes etc. but really how much do you need? Be honest with yourself and you'll find you don't need much at all. Find happiness in life, not in money and possessions.
Anyway, here's a few of the steps. I really must do more recent paintings as I have a lot more steps to show. Back when I did this, as well as the vast majority of my earlier digital art, I used very minimal layers. I can see now how beneficial using more layers can be and if you're new to digital art have a go at using different layers as they can really be great when it comes to modifying parts of an image without too much hassle and also a useful learning and teaching tool. This image actually was only going to be 2 versions of Jim's characters but I couldn't decide which one's I wanted to use cos he's got a few really unique and quirky ones.
