I have been a big fan of pro wrestling for as long as I have memories and my favorite team of all time would definitely be the 4 Horsemen. Ric Flair was impossible to ignore and I would say that as a youth I was probably a bit emotionally attached to him winning matches. I don't know exactly what it was, probably a lot had to do with his microphone skills, but I would get upset if he didn't win his matches.
It was recently pointed out that if I had known then what i know now, I could have determined the result before Flair ever even entered the ring.
It came up on some random video I was watching about "things only die hard fans notice" or something like that and it was pointed out that whether on purpose or just dumb luck, when Flair wore blue trunks, he would win the match, if he wore blue, he would lose.
This stopped being true once the word got out and was most notable in his final match where he wrestled Shawn Michaels in the "loser retires" match where he wore blue trunks for the match leading everyone "in the know" in the crowd to believe that Michaels was the one getting eliminated that night.
You may recall in that match that a sad-faced Michaels apologized before finishing Flair in front of about 80,000 fans.
Flair has never commented about this aspect of his earlier years (that I can find) where it seems to be the case with almost 100% accuracy: Red=lose , Blue=win. Of course he did wear other colors of trunks. The world may never know if this was an intentional "tell" or just a coincidence but it does appear to be the case over the years.
Here is a fun mix of Flair flip flops, which is part of what made him so amazing, even getting beaten he is more entertaining than most superstars who are winning.
