I think GJ was a tremendous governor. I also think GJ is mostly libertarian in his beliefs. I was admittedly enthusiastic regarding his strategy of bringing Weld on board. A ticket of two 2-term governors? Compare that to Trump (no public sector experience) and Hillary (no executive office experience), let alone the alarming concerns of each major-party candidate. My first concern about the LP ticket occurred when I learned about Bill Weld's record. Bill Weld is no Gary Johnson.
My concern grew as GJ attacked Trump, but not Hillary. The blown CNN Town Hall was beyond comprehension. Now it seems obvious. Fund-raiser Bill Weld is really in charge of this ticket. And Weld is a pure politician. Which means Weld is a nobody, as far libertarians are concerned. Some people I very much respect are still advocating voting for the LP come November, but I feel like the ticket has been co-opted by Weld, and HILLARY IS IN CHARGE OF IT! GJ once even said that his administration would be more like a Johnson/Weld "co-presidency". Aw, how sweet, but I am voting for a POTUS candidate, not a (very flawed) VP candidate.
I hope GJ is at peace with his campaign. I applaud GJ for giving the LP a tangible chance. That said, while it's easy to second guess GJ's strategy in hindsight, GJ is not in the televised debates, and there is less and less reason to vote for a hopeless cause that has been unfortunately hijacked.
