An argument for Energy as our Source
If you're at all interested in spirituality, you may have heard the term "Higher Self" or "Over soul." Some believe that our Higher Self is the generator of intuition. Most of us will admit that we've experienced "gut feelings" through certain times in our lives. Why is this? Could it really be that we are being guided and watched over from a higher power or even a "part of ourselves" at a spirit level? I believe this to be the case and in some ways, as will be outlined below, am testing this theory out in my own life.
But what is this "Higher Self" in actuality? To me, it isn't too complicated to comprehend. The best way I've seen this explained is through this example:
- Imagine your brain as a radio.
- Your brain can only clearly (without static) receive what it tunes into with great focus at any given time; much like a radio.
- Meanwhile there are always radio waves being broadcast; just because you don't hear them doesn't mean they aren't there.
- When you tune to different stations you receive the broadcast or music on that radio-wave or station; much like daily life - - - what you tune into is what you receive as the output.
But how do we "tune in" to this spiritual broadcast? Many believe that meditation is the first step. While I practice meditation often, I would not say that it is 100% essential to begin to "tune into" your life at a higher level. One of the best books I've read on the topic is "E-Squared (E-2) - Nine do it Yourself Energy Experiments that Prove Your Thoughts Create Your Reality." Pam Grout is the author.
In this book the author describes an energy field that is available to all of human kind. This energy field reacts with all forms of thought that we create. When we dwell on thoughts, aspirations, fears, or other types of emotions we can make the thoughts more powerful or "real." This works in the positive and the negative. All the more important, in my opinion, for why meditation can help as it is proven to help clear the mind and generate better focus, awareness, and stillness of mind. While not necessary, it is only proven to help control the never-ending chatter of the sub-conscious mind.
One of the 9 tests in the book explains how to bring good fortune into your life. The explanation of the process looks like this:
Focus on something that can unequivocally not be a coincidence in your mind. You MUST make this intention clear. Sit for 20 minutes at one point in your day where you will have time and be without distraction. You don't need complete quiet, just an environment to which you can be uninterrupted for 20 minutes.
This can be anything you want it to be. For me, I thought of a monetary reward or surprise. I specified that it must not be something as simple as finding money and it could not be from anyone that I knew. I was very specific in this request.
Believe in this request very much. Do not think "this is silly - it cannot happen." For if that is your focus that will be the outcome. Believe it to be, believe that you will receive this reality.
The author goes onto to mention that you must select an exact time frame for this reward to be provided to you (48 hours is typically a reasonable amount of time) - realize that in the physical world things do take longer to manifest. Thought is the engine that powers the energy to produce your reality. Things don't appear out of thin air but will manifest through our thought energy.
My thought was for a small monetary reward. I wasn't looking to get rich but for something to prove to myself that this "thought / reality" thing really worked.
Once complete, sit back and PAY ATTENTION to what life puts in front of you. Failure to stay aware could cause this result to happen right in front of you and have one not even notice. This is a typical mistake as we have not yet trained ourselves to be "present" in most moments throughout each day.
I remember specifically when I tried my experiment it was a Tuesday evening around 7:00 pm EST. I set Thursday evening by 7:00 pm EST as my deadline. To my utter astonishment, I received a phone call around 6:30 pm that very Thursday of that same week. It was a phone call from a local number that I did not recognize. Typically I let these phone calls go to voicemail but something persuaded me to answer this call...
It was a call from a local "Things Remembered" retail store at the mall. I hadn't shopped there in a few years and they were calling to tell me that I being given a $25 gift card to use upon my next visit. Now...you may say that could happen to anyone. Well...I've NEVER received a phone call from any retailer to inform me that I had a gift card to use on my next visit. I've received plenty of spam mail, email, and other methods of supposed offers; but NEVER a phone call. Almost 48 hours to the deadline I received my answer. Proof enough - - - for me.
I've gone on to try all the other experiments in E-Squared and have had success through all of them. I've repeated these different exercises at different points in my life since first reading the book about 2 years ago. Each time with some degree of success. After a while you must at least begin to believe that there can only be so many coincidences...right?
So is this one way that we can communicate or contact our "Higher Self?" I believe that it is. As with anything worthwhile in life it takes practice, dedication, and a yearning for more understanding. Like working out in the gym and building muscle you can train your mind to be able to "tune in" at a higher level. Generate communication with your "Higher Self" and receive guidance on life - - - for whatever important aspects you require advice or guidance on. It is such a powerful feeling to see it in action.
Don't take it from me...Experience it yourself. That is truth. I can and will tell of my many life experiences to which I've learned to believe we are energy and soul at our core as I continue to spend time here and blog about life and spirituality. We are all connected and our thoughts are EXTREMELY important.
