The College Football Playoff Rankings are out and there is a ton of outcry at the results. The committee is under fire after their selections, with their 2nd pick getting the most scrutiny. But before we get into that, the Alabama Crimson Tide take the 1st spot. This selection was a no brainer as the undefeated Crimson Tide were only behind the Georgia Bulldogs, who lost a tough road game to the Auburn Tigers. Alabama will play at the very same Auburn team on November 25th that will have big time consequences for how the rest of the rankings will be sorted out. This will be Alabama’s toughest game of the year.
But it is the 2nd team in the College Football Playoff Rankings that is getting all of the attention. The Clemson Tigers moved up from 4th to 2nd after they won and Georgia and Notre Dame lost. The Tigers had a comfortable home win over unranked Florida State 31-14. The head scratcher is that the Miami Hurricanes and Wisconsin Badgers, both undefeated, are behind Clemson. And the one loss Oklahoma Sooners also have a MUCH more impressive body of work. The good news for college football fans is that the Tigers and Hurricanes will face each other at the end of the year. This will be settled on the field.
The Miami Hurricanes jumped up to 3rd after an absolute beatdown of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. They jumped all over them immediately and held a 27-0 lead at the half before going on to win 41-8. This is the best Hurricane team in over a decade and they should cruise past their next two games and remain undefeated. They host the Virginia Cavaliers this week then travel to the Pittsburgh Panthers. But on Saturday, December 2nd, the Hurricanes will play at the Clemson Tigers. This will be one hell of a game and the winner will be looking good to advance to the Final 4.
Coming in at number 4 may be the best team in college football. The Oklahoma Sooners have wins over Ohio State, TCU, and Oklahoma State. No one in the country is playing better than their quarterback Baker Mayfield. He is the Heisman Trophy favorite and deserves to win. The Sooners have an easy game against Kansas this week but will be tested one more time when they host West Virginia in 2 weeks. It would not be surprising to see Oklahoma hoisting the National Championship Trophy when this season ends.
The next rankings will be out on Tuesday. But there is not going to be much or any movement. There are no major games this weekend so the top 4 should remain in place.
What do you think of the rankings? Is Clemson overrated? Should Wisconsin be in the top 4? Thank you for following
