Everyone seems to want a piece of the Irishman, but what does Conor actually want to do? Early in the morning last night at around 2am Conor was approached by TMZ in an effort to see who, and where exactly he wants to fight next. Pacquiao and mma were asked about, but Conor seemed preoccupied with getting home to his newborn son.
Regardless of post or position, Conor is still technically the lightweight champion of the UFC and he is still arguably the best featherweight fighter in the world. Conor's response to the paparazzi was that he is itching for a real fight, not necessarily a boxing fight as that is not his world.
Pacquiao was asked about but Conor mostly scoffed that option off, and made sure to communicate his interested in fighting within the mixed martial arts arena again...and not only again but for his next fight. Boxing is not really Conor's world as he is a hard hitting straight puncher who flows, boxing restricts his best assets.
Smaller gloves and open feet will always make Conor an absolutely lethal threat wherever a mixed martial arts fight goes, and with the new transgressions of his weight class, he may be itching to get back in the arena. A recent fight of the night between a man he knocked out in the second round (Eddie Alvarez) and rising contender Justin Gaethje unfortunately set back the division a bit.
Eddie Alvarez being victorious in that grandiose match up led to a lot of violence within the cage, but nothing to really merit a title shot. Conor's dispatching of the man really only leaves two options within the UFC arena, that would be either Khabib Nurmagomedov or Tony Ferguson, the current lightweight interim champion.
Tony seems to call out Conor every other day, whether it be his McNugget nickname or simply stating that Conor should vacate the belt. The interim champion isn't necessarily wrong, and he is an absolutely dangerous match up for Conor, but the left hand of the real champion is always something to be mindful of...we will just have to wait and see what the Notorious one does next.
