The #4 Gonzaga Bulldogs play against the #13 UNCG Spartans in first round action in the 2018 NCAA Tournament on Thursday. The game tips off at 12:30pm Central Standard Time and can be seen on National Television on TNT. It will take place at Taco Bell Arena in Boise, Idaho. Gonzaga is favored by 12.5 points and the over/under is 136 points.
Gonzaga's head coach Mark Few has to feel very good about another fantastic season. They have been on fire and in my opinion, they were the most underrated team by the NCAA Tournament Committee. They should have been no worse than a number 2 seed and will be playing with one hell of a chip on their shoulder to prove themselves. At 30-4 and 17-1 in conference play it is a travesty that they were put on the #4 line. Although senior Johnathan Williams is leading the team in scoring at 13.5 points per game, his teammate has stolen the show of late. Sophomore sharp shooter Killian Tillie has been on fire! He is shooting an incredible 50% from the 3 point line on the season and will play a HUGE role in the success of the Zags this postseason.
The UNCG Spartans have won 6 straight games and are playing their best basketball of the season. They won both the regular season and conference tournament in the Southern Conference. But they only have two players that are averaging in double figures. Francis Alonso is leading the way at 15.6 points per game and Marvin Smith is scoring 12.3 points per game. I think this game will be a blood bath. I don’t see any scenario that can let UNCG keep this close, let alone win.
