The Pac-12 Championship game tonight should be a good one when the USC Trojans battle with the Arizona Wildcats. The game tips off at 9pm Central Standard Time and can be seen on National Television on Fox Sports One. The game takes place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Arizona is favored by 3.5 points and the over/under is 144 points.
The Arizona Wildcats have had an interesting and controversial season so far. Their play on the court has been good but it is some off the court issue that have dominated the head lines of late. Head coach Sean Miller has reportedly been captured on an FBI wiretap discussing a $100,000 payment to freshman Deandre Ayton. Miller missed one game due to this but has somehow managed to hold on to his head coaching job. And Ayton has somehow been able to remain in the line up as he is their leading scorer. If these leaked reports are in fact true, Miller and Ayton may have bigger issues than just the NCAA and could be looking at jail cells. I think that no matter how far the Wildcats go this post season, all of these wins will get stripped once the FBI concludes their investigation. It will be a real shame for the rest of the team, their fanbase and the teams that they beat in the NCAA Tournament.
The USC Trojans started the season in the top 5 and had most experts predicting a run to the Final 4. But they struggled early before battling back in the second half of the season. USC finished second in the Pac-12 with a 12-6 conference record and are playing their best basketball when it matters most. Chimezie Metu is leading the team in scoring with 15.9 points per game. Bennie Boatwright is second at 13.6 and the junior wing man had hopes to take the lead to the NBA after this season but he has really underperformed. USC’s back court of Stewart and McLaughlin is one of the best in the country and has the experience to take them on a deep post season run in the NCAA Tournament.
Tonight’s game will have an impact on how high both teams will be seeded. Both of them are currently sitting on the 3-5 line and with a strong performance tonight and should get the their names called as a 3 seed.
