The PGA continues its West Coast Swing on Thursday at the Farmers Insurance Open hosted at Torrey Pines (South) in San Diego, CA.
According to Bovada.com, last year’s defending champion, John Rahm, is currently the odds on favorite, at 7-1, to win and repeat as champion. Rahm is currently in great form, winning his second career victory at last week’s CareerBuilder Challenge, just down the road in La Jolla, CA.
Ricky Fowler has earned the second best odds, at 10-1, this week. Fowler failed to make the cut last year, however, he is coming off a fourth place finish in his last start at the Sentry Tournament of Champions in Kapalua, HI three weeks ago. Only a month later, Fowler won the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas, albeit against a small, yet talent-rich field.
Hideki Matsuyama and Justin Rose are each 14-1 to win this week. Like Fowler, Matsuyama has not played in three weeks and finished tied with Fowler at the Sentry Tournament of Champions. He finished tied for 33rd last year.
Rose has played in two events in the wrap-around 2017-2018 season. He won the World Golf Champions-HSBC Champions just before Halloween and finished fifth at the Hero World Challenge.
Jason Day (18-1) won the event two years ago, however, he has not played in a PGA Tour event since October.
Tiger Woods (20-1) is playing in his second competitive tournament since his four neck/back surgeries that kept him out of action for over a year. Woods finished in the middle of the field at the Hero World Challenge but he is playing at one of his favorite venues in Torrey Pines, where seven of his career victories have come. He has won this event a record six times and also added the 2008 US Open.
