The Atlanta Braves and the Chicago Cubs wrap up their series tonight in MLB action. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35pm Central Standard Time and the game can be seen on National Television on WGN and locally in Atlanta on Fox Sports Southeast. It will take place at SunTrust Park in Atlanta, Georgia. The Cubs are slight favorites at -105 and the over/under is 9 runs.
The Atlanta Braves are feeling great after a 4-1 victory on Wednesday night. Freddie Freeman continues to be hot at the plate and is having a dynamite season. Tonight the Braves will send rookie pitcher Mike Soroka to the mound. He is one of the youngest starting pitchers in the MLB at only 20 years old. Soroka is 1-1 with an ERA of 3.68 in his 3 starts. His WHIP is concerning at 1.70 so it will be key for him to keep his composure and get the ball down and in the strike zone early.
The Braves are now 26-16 and sitting in 1st place in the NL East and have won 7 out of their last 10 games.
The Chicago Cubs find themselves in 4th place in the NL Central after last night’s loss. They are 22-18 on the year but are only 2 games back of the first place Pirates. After a nice hot streak, Javier Baez is now slumping. His batting average has dropped all the way down to .266 and he hasn’t homered in several games. Kris Bryant continues to play well though and is the only Cub batting over .300.
Jon Lester get the start tonight to try and slow down the good Braves bats. Lester is 3-1 with and ERA of 2.66. He will have his hands full though as the Braves rank in the top 10 in the MLB in every major offensive category.
The Braves will next host the Miami Marlins this weekend as the Cubs travel to Cincinnati to face the Reds.
